My only reservation..

Don't get me wrong, I've been excited for brink since 06 and so far I love everything I've heard/seen about the game.... except for maybe one possible thing. The level design. From some of the maps I've seen in the videos I'm getting the slight impression that certain levels have kind of a simplistic, dated style to them. I'm thinking of the Aquarium map in particular and I'm sure seeing a grainy video on the internet doesn't do justice to playing the real thing but I just have this feeling I can't shake. Anybody else got the same impression I did from parts of the level design seen so far? Can anyone reassure me that I have absolutely nothing to worry about?

I think they have had a LARGE amount of time to get it right. Plus, playing the game itself will make it all better. Just look at maps from the CoD scene. They look bad in the game previews you see, then you play them and really get into them.

I assure you that you have nothing to worry about. From what I've seen, all of the maps are very complex, with many different paths, lots of range variance (i.e. large rooms, narrow corridors, small rooms, etc.), and plenty of vertical geography. Should be fun.

Are you kidding?

If you've seen Container City there are so many different alleyways, entrances, fences and boxes to hop over, etc.

Level design looks great to me so far; really supports the class based gameplay: Main hallways for the Heavies to roll through sponging bullets, meanwhile alleyways and hidden ledges only Ops can reach to infiltrate enemy lines.

I honestly can't say I care about this too much. Generally speaking, it's the simplistic maps that are better for competitive gaming. I'm thinking of Halo with it's forge mode in particular). On top of that, symmetry kind of mattered in those competitive maps as well, but in Brink there's no need to worry about it and a symmetrical map would kind of play worse, I'm thinking (imagine doing the same objective twice per side, once on your side and once on theirs).

Maybe he's like the Brink Terminator... Sent back in time to protect the SD devs from an evil T-1000 programmed to kill them that was sent back by Activision, so that Brink will never be created so that the CoD franchise will never be demolished and shrouded by the epicness that is Brink, and they don't become bankrupt and homeless because nobody buys CoD anymore, because everyone loves Brink so much.

Nope, activison is not smart enough to make one of those, if they did, we, the diciples of H0RSE would stop them.

Ok, it's been delayed a lot but not THAT much. It was announced at E3 '09.

Another thing you have to remember is that the maps have been designed with the 'S.M.A.R.T.' system in mind

There will be a new vertical element of gameplay a first person shooter is yet to have. :D
