I only see three major problems with brink.

so that may be a personal thing.

It's always a personal thing and not just for games, for everything,we fail/miss to understand that factor in every new game for some reason.
When we start complaining about anything for a new game we should keep in mind that there are other gamers in forums just looking for info or just creative discussions and guys whinning and complaining WITHOUT valid grounds.
Most of the complains i see have no reason of existence and are just personal likes/dislikes,nothing more.

This story felt like it had potential, but most of the time, I'm just like, "Meh",
and I never really cared about anybody or their dire situations because it's all TELLING me about their dire situations,
but I never SAW the dire situations or witnessed the disastrous results of the situations, etc.

The story is very good, but i feel the same way, they should developed it further, make it more immersive (audio logs help to that btw).
It may be an FPS basically for Multiplayer gameplay BUT it's campaign is something playable in multi,so i feel it should have 20 chapters for each side than just 8 short stories.
It's more that they didn't make you feel they were in dire situtations, cause from the start they tell you that the Ark is "dying",it's not so self-sustained after all
but on the way there is no storytelling exept for the audiologs that still are in "general" notes.

The lag is an internet problem. ...
All games have it and there are solutions, like,i use servers that don't have lag (put them in favorites etc.),that is for the PC version, don't know how it works for the other platforms.

All in all i see 1 major problem, storytelling.
It may seem not major but it is for me,it's the longlivity of a game.

(Example: I played Dragon Age II four times, each one was different in many aspects,i enjoy them all,i could re-played it gain.)

1 . I dont have any lag at all, but Im on a PC.

2. The AI isnt the greatest, but I did not buy the game to play against AI.

3. I think the backstory to the game is excellent.

Agreed.

Ok I'll have a jab at discrediting the bashes here...

1. I am not experiencing this lag you talk about. If you really are experiencing some lag at the fault of the coding, then I'm 100% positive SD will get it sorted out for you.
2. The low level AI is bad, when you rank up the AI "ranks up" too. It isn't great AI, but this game is meant to be a multi-player game is it not?
3. The Ark is the scene, not a story. SD set the scene for you, that's all. Were you expecting a Portal 2 or Halo storyline? Yes they could do that and maybe they should, but as stated in #2 its a multi-player game.

I'm starting to think that video games just flat out don't cost enough. People buy them without knowing what they buy then complain that it was not what they expected.

I think your forgetting that this game is meant to have a story mode too(it's called solo campaign for a reason).

I might find the game fun also if:

I didn't switch out of my character at random respawn times. How does this even happen, does my character suffer from multiple personalities. Friggin strange.

I could find a game online that had more than 1 human player on my team. It seems like Im always going against 6 other humans, there's no way I can win.

This game, or at least the XBOX version, has a nice little catch 22 when it comes to actually playing the game. We can play with bots, but the bots on our team svck while our opposition are all using aimbots. We can also play online to avoid the bots, but we'll lag unless we play with only a few human players.

The lag is fine.

The story is fine.

AI isn't dumb... just the friendly AI. Heck, by level 20 the enemy bots are super-humanly-skilled and tactical.

1. there is hardly any noticeable lag on the PC version anymore, we have an own server to test it

2. noone cares about the AI. beside that I wasn't able yet to discover bugged bots whatsoever, this game is about PvP

3. Hm... agreed, story could have been more intense and such, BioShock anyone?

I'd like to exchange point one and two of yours with two of mine:

1. performance

2. seriously, performance

The things that annoys me is the performance lag, not the internet lag. Every game has internet lag issues from time to time, some bigger ones, some smaller ones. But the graphics performance ruins it on some maps. One should think a game whose FPS almost never drop below 30 runs fluently but that's only theoretical. As soon as the FPS drop to 30 or slightly below, it isn't fun anymore. And that wouldn't be such a huge issue if

a ) the game would look like Crysis 3 or whatever and if
b ) I could simply lower the graphic settings to see instant results.

But I can't. No matter what I do, as long as I play in 1680x1050 I experience the performance issues I can't explain, my HD5870 + Catalyst 11.5 Hotfix RC3 should be able to display that game with 60 FPS minimum. Must be the old ATI/AMD vs. OpenGL problem.

The major reason I dislike this game is partially because it could have been so much better with a few tweaks and removals. My biggest gripe is every single enemy WILL be incapacitated when you emtpy their helath and it literally takes about 15 bullets to kill them while they are down. Ive had parts on the campaign where I am trying to kill 2-3 downed people and before I can reload a medic has come and revived the 3rd person, its just ridiculous I would like this game so much more if players had more health and they just removed the incapacitated feature.

Also played campaign when have to escort somebody on mission 2 he is lying on the ground injured and the medic just stands next to him doing nothing ... taking the game back 1 day after I got it

:flamethrower:

Not sad to lose a customer like you I suppose. Your complaint about not being able to kill 3 people entirely on your own is totally off, normally you should have teammates you know. Furthermore, I never had bot issues but even if there are it seems to be too much of a challenge for you to wait one, two weeks so they have the chance to release some patches. (Beside that, switching to medic seems to be impossbile for you also.) Why did people stick with Gothic 3, I forgot...

First off, let them lay incapacitated, kill the medic running up. He just stands there while you shoot him anyways. That makes four enemies you have now killed.
Can't resist taking them out? Try saving your bullets and meleeing them. Gives you 20 xp instead of 2 anyways.

As for the idiot AIs who stand and admire their fallen escort without reviving him, you do it. Change classes, become a medic, and revive him.

These solutions too difficult? Kill yourself. Simple.

The audio logs were interesting but not great, I've nearly unlocked them all. I wish we'd see as well as heard more of Captain Mokoena and Brother Chen, since they were the the closest things to main characters. I want to feel motivated to fight for them.

You are right. He probably could not do that either. Sorry.

Just tired of reading post after post about how terrible the game is.

Idea. Make a game that plays exactly like this message board. Better yet, just turn this message board into a game. They all seem to enjoy posting their sob stories here.

Im done with this thread.

Every video & review explained to you that the "story" mode was basically multiplayer but you would play with bots or co-op with friends. Dont you research a game at all before buying? You actually get more story in the free-play loading screens from all the audio.

I find the story enjoyable, just wish it had been a bit deeper. The audio logs are very interesting & the very end scene has left me "wtf"!

Lag, yeah, its annoying & unprofessional for a "multiplayer" game. Feel a bit cheated there, but its def improving.

This. I find the AI on Rank 5 to be extremely human, actually. Extremely skilled and always going for the kills.

1: I've never had any lag issues since the games release, so i cant comment (on xbox 360)
2: Yes, the AI is just terrible, for a game that promotes teamwork the AI sure do love to go their own separate ways, find the nearest enemy and choke on a bullet.
3: Story is lacking, but i dont think this should be prioritized over other things such as bugs and netcode work.
