Aloha everyone, I'll keep this short and sweet! - After getting the bug in this quest whereby you find the staff of charming but can't return it to Enthir (quest doesn't update after finding it). I found myself stumped, I think this bug is classed as a game breaking bug as it'll stop you progressing the Winterhold quest line.

Long story short, after some searching I found a random thread on some random site where a guy [Joel007Gray] mentioned that if you equip the staff of charming then place it in your weapon rack (at a house you own), the quest will point to the item - pick it up again and wham, the quest updates > then you can deliver the staff to Enthir and continue with the quest.

Edit- Yep, hand in works fine now!

lol your in for a supprise onmunds a glitched follower he doesnt help in a fight he just sits there charging his spell

haha, I don't want him as a follower - just wanted to finish the quest

Onmund did fine as a follower in my game. Though I am about to sacrifice him to Boethia

As another work around, you could always just chug a potion of glibness and convince Enthir to give you Onthur's amulet back. My speechcraft skill is so high I never even had to find the staff of charming. Didn't even know it was part of this quest, ha.

Noooo just go buy the guy chillin at the bee and barb in riften for 500 beans.

I didn't have any trouble on PC with Onmund's quest. *shrugs* I hope it doesn't pop up in subsequent playthroughs.

Onmund's quest isn't essential to the main college storyline, it's just a side quest. Though it is annoying when they glitch out...

I got annoyed with this bug. I ended up sticking a firebolt into his face and that got rid of the quest.
