OOO is it good?

Post » Sat Sep 11, 2010 4:54 am

Hey, hey now...Twilight? There is noooo comparison. <_< ...I do not get the point either though... If you like OOO, great. It does what it does, and some people like the changes, others do not. That's what all of the choices floating around on the net are for...Is there an argument here, or am I out of the loop because my head is floating off somewhere in the distance...?

Yeah OOO is popular. so is Twilight that doesn't make it good.

How? Why? Bad movie ~ mod you do not like?

Edit: I realize this is kind of pointless, since you clearly do not like OOO, but I really, really do not like Twilight... :D There is a difference between well made but not to your tastes and...

*holds onto tomlongs head so it doesn't float off*

To the OP. Best comment I can make here is look at the resounding YES's over the No's. Even on any mod files you run across you might want to download. You'll have a bunch of "OMG this is the best .." and there's that one that gives it a thumbs down because they couldn't make it work. Chances are there's probably something fishy wrong with those few no's over the 100's of thumbs ups ;) .... if you get my meaning :)

I am really not arguing over OOO. I have no reason to because it is up to the users to decide whether or not they like it. However, Twilight = annoying (for me.) I definitely love some vampire, romance novels, but uhh...that movie... I have not seen it because I do not waste money on things like that, but seeing the guy at the Oscars, seriously?! Every time I think about that I have to go on to Miley Cyrus...:( Okay, need to de-stress... no more Twilight, please...?

don't get OOO its far too OOOverrated its a jumbled mess of dirty edits to everything imagenable that requires way too many patches to work. and offers little to no player choice

Just wow....
Would you care to elaborate on some of those comments?
Even the "way too many patches to work" one would be someplace to start your explanation.
And I'd love to know about the "dirty edits"
Enlighten me.
Please.....

ugh i can think of at least one example if it makes you happy. a cupbord in the Arch mages Querters is marked as a quest item by OOO. very sloppy indeed consideirng how many cells use that same object and how many of the most basic mods use said object (now i remember it was the one at the foot of the archmages bed)

AND i am Sure IF this was brought to the Attention of the OOO thread it would have been fixed if indeed it IS an issue. Did you make a report?

ok i think i'm going to shut up now i'm sorry for any toruble i've caused. delete my posts if need be. the issue may have been resolved since i last checked actually so i'm sorry for the accusations i just notice how jarring it is that so many mods have needed an "OOO Compatibility Patch" to work with OOO

At least, the OOO team provides the patches. It is not as if OOO does not advertise itself as a large mod. You have to be wary of that with any large mod. That is why I appreciate the BC, FCOM, OOO, UL and other teams that provide support for other mods, when they have absolutely zero obligation to do so. OOO has been around a lot longer than many other mods too, so it is not as if the authors of other mods do not know about its changes. Authors who do not care about OOO compatibility do not offer the patches, many authors do, or make it so that their mods are compatible anyway. For its size, I really have not noticed many compatibility patches for OOO. Most of the "OOO" patches I have seen or used take care of "cosmetic" issues (i.e., faction alignment, reoverriding with OOO's stats) or add "extra" compatibility with OOO (i.e., inserting items into OOO's leveled lists, OOO expansion packs.) I have spent a lot of time in TES4Edit going through my load orders of 200+ mods, and by biggest issues have been no more than four random water edits (courtesy of TESCS) and a few naming inconsistencies. I mean, seriously, the mod contains thousands of records, and I have found little problems on the order of 10.

My calling OOO a well-made mod has little to do with my preferences. I might even be in the minority of its users because I like all of the options merged into the FULL version, but I am sure that there are those who like its "togetherness" as well, two plugins for the whole package, in spite of a few undesired changes. There are many carefully produced mods, large and small, that I do not use, but I still appreciate the modders for making them. We can drown in choices.

Edit: I second reporting suspect issues as well. That's what all of the betas are for...:)

Edit: This only in response to the compatibility patches thing. OOO covers a lot of territory, but with mods big != incompatible with many.

That would be the Arch Mage's Nightstand, yes? I think you'll find that's a unique container for that cell. Whether or not it is a quest item in Vanilla, I don't remember, but I do re, remember that it respawns, which is very irritating.

So that, at least, doesn't look like a bug.

Yup. All of the mods you have mentioned are in my LO (posted on the site) except for KR. I took it out because I was just tired of the Kvatch "exceptions." That mod is fine too, and it has OOO support. I might use it again in the future as well. I just want to get this out the right now: If you ever use BC, you should not use the original Vaults plugin with the BC version because the BC version is a replacer. As for OOO, if you want more explicit help then the general pages on the site, you can read the MMMforOOO guide and simply ignore the MMM part.

It does not really give much more info for OOO because OOO is kind of an all-in-one package, excepting the separate updates for the LITE and the FULL version, but there are some instructions for adding a script to the 1.34b5 update and a few warnings and notes about the bundled components (i.e., use the latest stand alone version, instead of the buggy one bundled with OOO.)

There is a link to the main HF mod on the Downloading Mods page, so just in case you had intended to use it: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2037.
