My OOO starter's hints.

Post » Sat Nov 07, 2009 5:40 pm

Recently I have downloaded OOO and started a new character, a "spellcaster". I disliked him so I decided to start a Nord Melee-only character.

My spellcaster :

Tried :

Dzonot cave - thought it would be a bandit cave (didn't notice the Amazon's). KEEP OUT!

Sinkhole cave - The first floor was a bit hard, had some fun moments, but I got through it. The second floor is a different story. Four bandits sat at the front waiting for me. I tried this fight about 10 times before giving up.

Vilaren(sp.) - (The ayleid ruins east of the Prison) The first floor was very challenging, I didn't make it through the second bandit.

My new Nord Melee :

Strategy :

I first grabbed the Silver Cutlass from the pirate in the waterfront, rather easy to get and does a great amount of damage.

Tried :

Crumbling Mine - Easiest dungeon yet. Each bandit died in a few hits, and happily most were bowmen - no shields to deal with. Took me about five to ten minutes to get through.

Plundered Mine - Most every goblin had shields - I left after the first few kills. The Three Feathers Shield is nice though, so go inside and kill atleast one. (Upgrade for me)

Going to try:

Unknown - Give me ideas and I'll report my findings. Nothing crazy please.

Update :
I did Sinkhole Cave again and waited till the bandits spread apart this time. I killed all but the ring leader and his companions. Thats all for now.

Sinkhole Cave - SECOND FLOOR NOT GOOD FOR SPELLCASTERS, but good for everyone else.

Well, some places are very dangerous near the imperial city if you installed OOO/FCOM. Some others are not so hard.

As a new charactor, the following information might be useful.

Spoiler

Dzonot Cave: Never go there as a low level charactor...those amazon hot man-eaters will cut you in half within ONE SECOND.

Sideway Cave: a Nice place if you CAN take those gargoyles...yes, they are very tough, and can kill my level 10 magi very quickly...

Sinkhole Cave: save before entering second level, use same strategy to explore the Ayleid ruin near the sewer exit.

Imperial Sewer: Don't touch those elder vamps...or you'll be a new handy floor-mopping tool...

Fatback Cave: there are some tough goblins, be well prepared before you dive in...

Safest Place?

I suggest Fort Nikel, the first fort ruin you will meet if you walk your way from Imperial City to Chorrol.

I have to go soon, but I will try the Sideways Cave and Fort Nike when I return. I explored the exterior of Fort Nikel yesterday, just was afraid their would be spectral warriors or something :P.

With FCOM, I found doing the Fighter's Guild questline to be pretty easy as a melee fighter. So you might want to try that. And the Sewers. Aside from the vampires under the Arena, it's mainly bandits, goblins and rats. All are easy fodder for your blade.

I tried Fort Nikel, it is not safe AT ALL. The marauders like to come in groups of 3-4, I could take 2, but when one runs away into another group, it's impossible.
Fort Nikel :
Don't go past the first 2 iron gates on the left and right (only contains chests, no enemies).

I am only using OOO, but I will try the sewers. The north gate seems to have a hard lock, my security is only 6. I will try to find another sewer.

My advice? Use vanilla leveling rates until level 10 or so... or later... I was twenty five hours into the game and still level three... bad times...

I just beat http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Felgageldt_Cave. I beat the Ringleader at the end and got a giant silver mace from him. An Orcish shield was in the hard chest behind him, I can't open hard locks, but I used unlock in console to open it. I found an orcish shield and figured that I should not take it since it would be cheating. He also had an Elegant Chest beside him with a really nice potion.

First Floor : Easy, just a bunch of bandits, got a "Illumination Staff : Ashenwood" from a hedge wizard and a red cape from a regular bandit.
Second Floor : A little bungled up, but I got through it.
Ringleader :
Strategy :
2 Slashes, fall back. Repeat doing that and restore your health every time he/she hits you.
Dropped :
Silver Mace, the chests had really nice stuff, but I won't take the Orcish shield since I didn't open it fairly.

Felgageldt Cave = win. You must do it!

This is MY post. I'm not going to necro an old post who ASKS for a guide. I am simply testing out caves/forts/mines for others. This is MY guide. Please don't start recommending off-topic stuff. If you have something to suggest or want to see if it's doable, let me know.
Not to sound rude of course, but that thread is just a bunch of jumbled ideas. No one ever tried to put them all together in one post. I am just making this for other people to enjoy.
Once again, I am sorry for being rude. I feel bad -_-.

Them gargoylites are pretty easy to take on.
Just step sidewards when they try to cast something, then stop as they cast it and they will always cast it way off.
Same with anything that casts spells or fires arrows.

(Great way to gather free amazon arrows for me: face a wall, step sidewards as you hear the arrow release, grab arrow as it bounces on the wall)
I wonder if this is considered "cheating" though.

Ahh, thats great! I'll try that with a gargoyle when I see one. And the amazon's, I don't see how thats cheating, it's just a great strategy. Thank you!

Well the thing is, it does make the game a hell lot easier, almost too easy. On the other hand if you're playing ooo, those archers do hit hard and it's a tad annoying if you don't dodge them arrows.

The nice thing however is that the npc's (humans atleast) tend to do the same thing occasionally.
Also when doing melee and having a high enough skill you can hit sideways to disarm the opponent, then pick up their weapon so they can only respond by fist bashing or running away. :)

For the melee challenges, and if I just want to see whats beyond there (I don't save when I do this) I just run out and jump on a big rock so they can't reach me.
Then it's just a case of having enough arrows to pierce their armor, kill em and move on.
Did some of the harder ooo bosses this way but by doing this you will get access to items way before you should.
Hence why I don't save when I do it.
