OOOFCOM Tips for new characters

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 1:33 am

Hello, I didn't see a topic for this anywhere so I thought I would start one.

I have a new character which I am playing through FCOM and am currently level 10. I am playing a mage character and seem to be getting destroyed pretty quick.

Does anyone have any tips to get some good starter gear and spells or good loot to get a new character off to a good start.

Thank You

OOO only, but most of the other additions in FCOM are random anyways.

It's pretty well documented with quite a few helpful threads linked in the opening post of the current OOO thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1320382-relz-oscuros-oblivion-overhaul/

Use summons as soon as you see the enemy ( i always summon skeleton). Keep summoning.

Use paralyze in close combat.

Get the armor class up. Use shield, bound armor, use rings and amulets. You ever notice how you can bang on magic users wearing summoned armor with no effect? Well, use the same trick.

Thanks for ths tips! Anything else?

I have a dagger with paral\yze on it but it is hard to recharge, so that may have to wait till I get a higher level.

Stay away from melee if you can help it unless you have bound armor for high AC at low levels. Get a bow and pelt them from a distance while your summons keeps them busy. Recast summon as soon as one dies.

Use sneak (be patient) to get into higher level dungeons, take your time, and look for containers, to get some nice loot (money and magic). If you use OOO then you might be lucky to find a room full of dead higher level monsters that may have a nice weapon or magic. This is your best bet to get some good stuff at low levels. All is fair.

I am currently level 11 and began as a mage character. As I began to level I have noticed my magica gets depleted so fast that I have begun to use melee more, but when I have a staff available I use them. The skeletal mages have nice staffs but they weigh 60lbs, so I typically use them then ditch them. I have noticed that the adventure characters that OOO adds to the world are pretty easy to kill and have nice loot.

Should I take up marksmanship over blade? I killed a bunch of braided bandits so I have a TON of good arrows and bows...

Keep the tips coming! Thanks

At level 11 you should be pretty good but I think you are also at the bottom of the next tier of leveled lists. As you have met the "Braidy Bunch" as I call them, marksmanship is very beneficial as most of them use it. The braided arrows help even though you can't use the braided weapons until you finish that quest line.

These guys are tough as they have summons that outnumber yours. Aside from them, you need a ranged skill, destruction (tough because it drains magika) or marksman which is better as you can carry ALOT of arrows. Get a bow that does extra magic damage and you are sitting pretty. Best advantage of bows is at high skill level you can stun the enemy. The skill is harder to raise so invest in training that skill at each level.

You see an enemy, cast your summon skeleton, then pelt them with arrows. If summon gets killed, cast again. Rinse and repeat. And don't forget armor class. get it to 50+ if you can. If you equip a shield which has a shield spell, you get that benefit even though you are using a bow.

Now if you want to have real fun, get Phitts Phiting Phixes and use the 2x damage. You can kill most things quickly. But it has a couple drawbacks:
the enemy can kill you in a couple shots too
and you do not get the same number of skill uses since it takes fewer uses to kill the target.

Not to put a damper here, but why continue this thread when the topic is already live?
OOO isn't a new mod or experience.

Everything you could possibly ask is covered in the links I gave in post #3
