Edit: My bad it is one worldspace but you teleport from one area to the next :D

Likely due to performance issues, even on a GTX 470 I get drops in framerates with the mod linked to earlier.

I would love to see open cities in Skyrim, but not at the cost of performance. If open cities are going to cause excessive amounts of lag I Won't mind having loading screens. I'm used to seeing them after playing Oblivion, fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Yep, we will have to wait for his response as pertains to cities.

Well all games have loading screens but things like FPS usually mask them with in-game cutscenes between levels. It's just more apparent in large open world RPGs.

Okay, at least now we know we shouldn't get our hopes high, and he didn't deny it, that's a good thing. Anything can happen now.

THIS IS DEFINATLY NOT CONFIRMATION.

Ditto, he said we've had this...well if we've had this then he's not including citys maybe some are open some are walled and load.

I have to say, it is fine with me. While I would prefer something like, say, the city walled, and you can open the gate without going to a load screen. Oblivion's style is just as well.

Hey, even if they have a load screen per city/world transition, I imagine it's just for higher-detail cities on consoles. I'm pretty certain that an Open Cities and Open Better Cities mod will be much more viable on Skyrim's engine than it was in Oblivion's, just from what we've seen with the culling optimizations in FO3. Maybe modders will have to do less work to make it "better" because of the engine improvements too. :)

Also, there could be non-performance reasons. In the Open mods the NPCs would tend to get mauled by wildlife or murdered by bandits, etc. haha.

So, with the "Ooooh. Sorry. I understand. Not actually sure the answer for the 5 major "cities". Towns are open, have to chk on cities." and "Yup. Had a brain fart. They were talking about loads. I don't know the answer for the cities. Sry for confusion. I svck" Tweets, shouldn't the title be changed or at least the main post edited to make sure people don't get confused?

Sorry, had to fix the wording in my quote, I didn't mean apparently but I said it in my original post <_<

I'm sure cities are open too but if they aren't it will be fine Oblivion style. I've never had an issue with loading screens because they are almost instant on a RAID 0 HDD and now with my new RAID 0 SSD setup, it's instantaneous. Mainly I don't see a problem with loading screens because they allow you to take the load off of your system, so if anyone starts shaking their fists at us, you will know we are on the right side :cookie:

@DCDeacon Can you at least tell us how "major" the 5 main cities will be? In Oblivion they felt like villages rather than cities.

@Silvade14 Check the first screen GI released and decide for yourself.

Thanks for clearing that up :) Well at least towns are confirmed. Now we just need to know what actually qualifies a town.

Markath ?

Coming late to the party. But don't you need open cities anyway if you're planning on having dragons attacking ?

The one tagged Markarth. Of the Dwemer ruins.

If we are to judge from that, I would say they are open.

I think Pete is more a public relations kind of guy, and not knee deep in the game mechanics. That's why he needs to check it up. He relays info, but doesn't necessarily have specific intel imprinted on his spine.
