Open cities confirmed.

I think thay he knows that they are seperate cells and is now back tracking.

Then his comment about "looking at the first screen and deciding" doesn't make much sense... Markath does look open.

Although it would be nice with cities being part of the world cell, it's not my main concern, my main concern regarding the whole cell issue, is if the 5 big cities are walled, then I hope climbing over the walls will bring me into the city, instead of into the void.

Well now that we know Markarth Side is a major city, it looks like it's open. So this isn't really a confirmation but if it helps people feel better about it, it looks like the cities are open.

Doesn't look like there's climbing anyway, so there.

I do hope they're open : it does make levitation possible, and more importantly, aerial dragon attack, no ?

It could be that you have to enter the entire Markath Side area through a gate or something. Don't get your hopes up just yet.

I think Pete is more a public relations kind of guy, and not knee deep in the game mechanics. That's why he needs to check it up. He relays info, but doesn't necessarily have specific intel imprinted on his spine.

He's seen the game enough to know if cities are open or not whether he's pr or not.

Well the skill Climbing, might not be in, but the ability might still be in, either way, Oblivion didn't have climbing, but people still found a way to get over the wall, it will happen in Skyrim, I see a wall as a challenge :D

Anyways, as long as actually getting over a city wall, loads the city instead of just voiding out, it'll be okay (for me).

I don't know. Can't it be that they're trying to make them open, but aren't sure it's going to work ? I mean, they backpedalled the hell out the Radiant AI for Oblivion.

I don't think Mr. Pete Hines knows what he is talking about. I think I'm going to wait for the actual developers to confirm things.

You don't need an open city for an aerial dragon attack, just two instances of the dragon. When you're outside the city you see one instance of the dragon, swooping down and spewing fire at the city hidden behind its wall. When you get inside the city you see a different instance of the dragon circling overhead, then swooping down to land in a burnt market square or other open space.

Agreed, I found the invisable walls in New Vegas irritating, in TES any wall is challenge for me to get over. :liplick:

This is indeed brilliant news if it's going to be all open!

Well I've never had my hopes built up and then dashed so quick (in the space of the OP and the edit :P ). Nevermind - save that one for TES:VI.

Ah. You really need to explain this to me. Not-open cities mean they're in a separate cell from the rest of the world, is that right ? Hence why there wasn't levitation in Cyrodiil - it just couldn't be. So if the cities are closed off, how does a dragon attack from the sky ? It materializes in the sky of the cell ?

*edit* Nevermind.
