An open letter to Bethesda and Obsidian

I don't know what everybody's complaining about, I'm like ten hours in and haven't had a problem yet. And I haven't enjoyed an RPG this much well Morrowind.

Quit whining, the game has barely been out a week.

Yea see if you still have that attitude once you hit a part of the game that corrupts any saves made afterwards. It hasn't been out a week eh? How 'bout it should be WORKING on release day? No?

This IS a great game, I haven't had this much fun in quite awhile. I also have not had to deal with this many game BREAKING problems in a long time. This product is heavily flawed in areas, and the concept that it's aok to release something that doesn't work right and patch it whenever the company gets around to it, is bullcrap. The fact that the majority of players have the "well I'm not effected yet so who cares" mentality is pretty disgusting. What happened to holding companies accountable? Nah, just fork over money and wait til they fix this product while I sit in the corner quietly.

Screw that. I paid hard-earned money for a working video game. What I have is a pile of code that finds new ways to break everytime I play, all the way tot he point that I can no LONGER FREAKING SAVE A GAME and have it load properly, which is just kind of an important part of a game this deep. Fix it, and do it sooner rather than later, or return my money, since the product I ordered wasn't what was given.

Again, the game itself when playable is fantastic! I can totally feel the return of some of the original FO creators back at the helm. It's just that whole not-working thing that keeps chaffing my ass, as well as the attitude that giving paying customers a broken product is somehow ok.

Why is that disgusting that people aren't complaining for the sake of complaining?

Why would I whine about glitches if I haven't experienced any yet?

Where have you been? I've had no one to argue with for weeks, and how dare you appear before my eyes after all this time with an issue I agree with you on. :stare:

It is perfectly understandable for people to be upset about this and the more people complain the more Obsidian will that this is no joke. Other then the game-breaking glitches and bugs I love this game except for a few other problems. I agree that there are not enough songs in FNV and that johnny guitar song is so awful it needs to be patched out. And that mister new vegas guy is so boring to listen to and never has anything interesting here. I shove his stupid 'newsman fedora' up his ass. I am also not a fan of the new skill point system because that was so cool in Fallout3 being able to get every skill at 100. I miss Bobbleheads because they help let anyone be anything along with the awesome skill point system that let you potentially max out everything in combination with Bobbleheads, plentiful skill books, and 23 possible skill points per level. I also liked being able to get a perk every level. It was a refreshing turn from every 3rd level like the original Fallout games. Fallout3 had mostly better perks although FNV has some pretty good perks. Lastly I have always hated the repair system. I wish there was some sort of post-apocalyptic version of repair hammers from TES in Fallout3 and FNV. I always hated having to carry dead weight to repair my stuff not to mention items having such little health/durability. Then there were the more powerful and rare items that were hard to get your hands on and even harder to get more to repair one. Then there is trying to get your stuff repaired but only one person in each game has a 100 repair skill so it's hard to get it fully repaired for caps and then there is the problem of those certain items that are so expensive to repair that we're talking about over 1000 caps for just 10% extra durability repaired. I thought that those repair kits were going to be like repair hammers where they'd be cheap to buy, plentiful to find, replenishing in inventories, and just all around everywhere but then I find out that you can only find a few and they take a huge amount of garbage to make. Then you find out they only repair your weapon and they barely repair it. If anything it should atleast repair your stuff 100% if it costs that much trash to make. Or if anything add a perk that requires you to have 100 repair that gives you the ability to fully repair any equipment you have for free. When you think of it a repair kit or tool box that acts the same way repair hammers do in TES in Fallout would be great. Just limit their effectiveness depending on your repair skill. Anyway, that is all I have to complain about. Thanks for hearing me out because I know I'm going to get spammed with hate so I'm just going to go ahead and never come back to this post again. Here's hoping the next Fallout's repair system doesn't svck.

FO3 release- Everyone complains that Bethesda ruined the Fall Out franchise and that the game doesn't do justice to the original two.

FNV release- Bethesda brings in the creative minds of the people who brought you the first two Fall Out games, and everyone complains that FO3 was better and far less glitchy.

Bethesda can't catch a break.

Listen. Personally I haven't encountered a bug yet (PC). But even if I had, I'm willing to pay top price for Bethesda games because, they might be 10x more glitchy than their competitors, but they're also 10x more hours of gameplay.

People continue to ask the question how Bethesda is allowed to release a glitchy product. The can release glitchy content because they have so much more content for the same price. Simple as that. Fire the management team? The management team would get fired for trying to release a glitch free game of this size. It'd take at least an extra year, the graphics would be outdated and they'd run the risk of the platform themselves being outdated. You want to file a lawsuit against Bethesda? If they tried to release a glitch free game, their investors would have to file a lawsuit against them. Honestly. After Oblivion, FO3, and any Obsidian game on the market, you'd think people would know what to expect, and make informed decisions about how to spend their money.

No, it's disgusting that some people have to come into a thread and call people whiners and question why people are complaning, just because YOU aren't having issues.

Evolve.

I apologize, I actually have to pay for stuff you know. I would rather pay 200 Dollars for a nice ps3 that can handle all the games with no stress or upgrades every two damn years.

The insults, lack of tolerance for differing opinions, and general rudeness of these forums have escalated with New Vegas' release. Please, don't be one of those people, and by those people, I'm referring specifically to those who scream "PCs are the best, consoles svck, whoever plays on a console is an idiot!" Screaming "PC players don't have to pay for things and/or are rich!" also doesn't help (from the other side) , but it's too tense around here.

Obviously you've never been to the Football Manager forums on a day one release of that game. Oh joy that's gonna be even worse that here for complaints about the game.

Have to agree here Seti. I've only just got a laptop to be able to play New Vegas on but have it on PS3. They're both there for us all to play on yet some people start PC vs Console wars for the fun of it

it is from an evolution standpoint a step backwards.

the engine is even more unstable and buggy.

the Mojave Wasteland is lackluster compared to the Capitol Wasteland.

the radio stations are lacking, FO3, had what 12 songs, a little radio drama, entertaining DJ commercial and news. FO:NV has what... 4 songs, a monotone DJ and no radio drama.

The textures as actually worse then in FO3

the main storyline is pretty boring even at it's climix.

the only good news is that the Mojave wasteland is more of a blank canvas for the modding community.

I disagree with most of these points, but the one about the radio is plain wrong.

There are definitely more than 4 songs, and Wayne Newton is awesome.

Wow how quickly people forget how bad f3 was. It was as if the playtesters only shot people and tried nothing else. NV has far less problems. Heck in f3 I would problems just trying to get the goat exam to run. This might be one of the best jobs Obsidian has done. No complaints from me on it. Has worked fine, a couple of freezes every so often but pretty forgetable.
After F3 though it is kind of funny to see so many 360 complaints.

I have been a fan of Bethesda's games since Morrowind. I have played so many other and sank so many hours of my life into them. However, after getting New Vegas, I am so disappointed with the company. I never sign up for forums, but I am so annoyed that I felt I should this time.

Between work and other household duties, I find it very hard to find the time for gaming. I bought the game on a day off (for the PS3) and sank my day into it. I loved it up until the point where I got my first freeze. I can deal with the stuttering or other minor graphical glitches, but it began freezing all the time. Then, I began to notice scripted events not happening when they were suppose to, items/characters stuck in walls, or under road pavement.....

I tried to shrug them off, hoping those were the only glitches. Then, I had issues with companions going missing or encountering the equipment issues (boone). I then had issues with loading screens being stuck or taking way to long (over two minutes to load the interior of a shack??). I can deal with minor issues with games as large as this, but when it is one after another that seem to be getting worse, it makes me not want to play anymore. It makes me angry that with the little free time I have, the time has been wasted. To top it off, you generally cant return games to the store in which you purchased it.

Now, I'm not going to go as far as say that everyone should be fired or that there should be a class action, but the companies responsible should really do something to save face and let the consumer know that they are cared for. They can try to patch the game, but at this point, there are many long awaited fall releases coming out, so they might loose their fan base permanently. They need to come out with a MAJOR patch soon. Very soon. If they cant patch the problems, at least give the consumer a way to return the game, or credit towards another title in the future. Posting messages saying that you are listening and that "we hear you" seems like a simple way to try to save face, but is generally futile of there is nothing behind the statement.

Unless something happens within the next week that makes me feel that the company is truly sorry and that all the issues have been fixed, I can honestly say I will never purchase a game from this company again, not matter how amazing it looks or the hype and advertising that surround it.

This is what happened to me, things started out ok but the more I play things start going further down hill. I'm to the point where I had to hard reset my ps3 6 times today, and had to spend an hour + looking for my companions since the game randomly puts them on the "wait" command, and I have quests breaking left and right.

(Im around 40 hours playtime)

maybe its silly that i think consoles are for kids and pcs are for advlts. besides consoles are 4 generations behind in graphics. i paid twice for my gpu what it costs to buy one ps3. thats just the gpu, not including 8 gigs of memory and a bad ass cpu and all the other components. the games are designed on computers. they should be made to work for all computers first.

Still enjoying the experience with six hours in, here's hoping I don't encounter anything major!

Not that anyone at either company will see this, but....

I wanted to thank both companies for putting out an utterly unplayable game. I played FO3 for over 400 hours and it is by far my favorite game ever. I have been anticipating NV since it was announced. I picked up my pre-ordered collector's edition at the midnight release. I arranged my work schedule so I'd have a couple of days to play, but....

Well, we all know what happened then. Yes, I've been able to get about 20 hours of frustrating, freezing, glitching, bugged-out, special-ed framerated gameplay. And now I'm stuck until the game is fixed. The new 360 patch...well, if it fixed anything it must have been something very minor. Cuz I still can't play my game. A lot of people still can't play their games. Or have already given up.

From what I've been able to see, this is going to be an amazing game, but only if you get it fixed NOW! In just a few weeks, you're going to lose faithful FO fans to Fable, COD Black Ops, and other anticipated releases because this game is unplayable in it's current state for many players. I'm thinking a month minimum to fix anything of any real importance. By then, I will be playing other games. Maybe even playing FO3 again to get my wasteland fix. Plus I get perks every level in FO3 and the music was better.

I fail to understand how the game ever made it to the shelves in this state. Was it not tested? Or worse, was it shipped with knowledge that the game was poorly QA'd and filled with bugs and glitches? Everyone mid-level management and up should be fired immediately. Anyone in QA should be fired immediately. Allow the programmers and devs remain long enough to fix this POS and then fire them for creating such a poor product to begin with. This was the slam dunk GOTY for 2010 until it was ruined by YOU!

Or maybe just dissolve both companies. After this launch both of your reputations are going to be so bad you will most likely never have another hit game.

In the absence of being able to play my game, how about I get a refund. Or a partial refund. Or some free Microsoft points. Or something. Anything to say you're sorry for knowingly shipping such a broken game. I know this won't happen because you already have our $$. Maybe a class action suit by consumers would do the trick. Any other company that knowingly puts out a defective product is liable, why not a video game company. Repaying that $60-$90 to every consumer who purchased FO:NV might get your attention.

Until then, thanks again for ruining what should have been GOTY, and for once again demonstrating that game developers have no qualms about releasing a piss poor product on a faithful following.

laggy and bad framerate? i dont know where you got your piece of [censored] xbox but mine doesnt lag the only problem with it is loading take forever unless i just clear my system cache which is fast and easy oh an the hunting shotgun locks up my controller for 4 seconds after i reload but i can still move around and look so i dont know what thats about...

13 hours and not a single crash or freeze. Decent frame rates. The auto save issue is fixed now. I'm having fun. I guess I'm lucky. I do want more radio stations/songs. If I hear "Big Iron on His Hip" one more time, I'm going to start shooting the radio tower.

dont forget about that f'in johny song but thank god for youtube

Really people, I understand glitches are fustrating, when my xbox blacked out whenever I entered the strip I got angry too, but calling for companies to be dissolved, calling for class suits? Its a bit overblown. Indeed the game is glitchy, but its a damn good game most of the time, most bugs can be minimised by regular saves and the amount of glitches varies.

I think the wide number of copies released are fine, obviously some copies have it worse than others. Also, whilst as a consumer your are entitled to a workable product, unless Bethesda didn't take enough precautions to test the game (which they did with 70 testers named in the credits) you probably aren't entitled to anything more than you have.

And to be honest, a big company like Bethesda and Obsidian knows that the vast majority of copies sold are probably working fine, and the vast number of consumers would probably buy another game and sequel of this franchise, they are only fixing it because they want to, they don't have to and many companies don't go to the efforts that they are.

Complaining and flaming isn't motivating them, desire for their fans to be happy are. A few hundred, or thousand forum posters cannot bully a company which sells millions within its first week.

So please, chill out, describe what bugs your having so the developers can fix them and enough with the pointless threats, and rants and promises of withdrawal of service against the company, it gives a puerile impression and has no discernible constructive use...
