An open letter to Bethesda: suggestions for fallout shelter

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 4:50 am

Hey Bethesda!

Long time really devoted fan here. Thank you for all the amazing work, your games are by far the best in my opinion. All the fallout news has been driving me crazy! I actually pre-ordered the pip boy edition in the U.S. and then planning to have it shipped to me in Canada.

I have been playing fallout shelter since you guys released it and I can't wait to hear about more updates. I have been playing and thinking what could make this game better and I have suggestions and bug inquiries for you guys.

Here they are,

Suggestions:

-maybe make the right side of the building area either closer or farther to take away confusion of how many rooms you can build to the right. It looks like you might be able to build an extra room.

-an indicator of some sort so you know what rooms can expand and how many times. I built a radio room next to one to expand it just for aesthetics but found out it didn't expand it.

-perhaps maybe there could be a payment for moving rooms? I don't think this is that important but it might be nice down the road to be able to reorganize the shelters layout.

-a way to see other player vaults, or friends vaults, would be cool

-maybe a Brahman caravan can be made to trade people and items with other vaults. Could be a random event with a request to trade something specific you can either agree or turn down.

-an overseers office, higher level room, to help increase the happiness level of the residents. Maybe a place where you can see other players, caravans and move rooms. Maybe you have to be at a certain point to build this room and when you do more options are added to give the game a slight change of pace to keep it interesting later on.

-maybe after getting the oversees room you can start to perform experiments on your vault dwellers. You have an option to do so and options to what experiments you can perform. Some being more risky than others but if you successfully pull it off there are lunch box rewards. The higher the risk the greater the reword.

-a kindergarden with a robot teacher like fallout 3 to teach children to have a better random stat by the time they grow up. Probably would be a higher level room

-a way to save residents work areas. So if you move them to fight, train stats, fight a fire/rad roach event, make some babies, or pick up some slack from another work area you can push a button to send everyone back to their areas. Can be turned on or off perhaps.

-to be able to colour rooms differently. Maybe not electrical and water works but maybe the diners and the residents rooms.

-a sprinkler system to help extinguish out of control fires but at great costs to water.

-maybe be able to upgrade rooms further, I love seeing the rooms change when upgraded. Could be a later game mechanic.

-this could be something I haven't seen yet but; would be cool if other invasions happened from super mutants and feral ghouls happened later on.

-sickness, disease and radiation could afflict the vault dwellers after an attack. This would increase the games feeling of risk and put some greater needs on MEDS. I have a full set of rad away and stim packs almost constantly

Bugs:

-the background of a new baby notification is sometimes not there

-optimization would be nice. Lags more than xcom for my iPad3. Mainly on startup and a bit afterwords. When fires happen and rad roach infestations it happens too.

-sometimes crashes on startup or just after it loads

-between the top level and the mountain there is some white fragments were the textures meet

-tons of lag when scrolling through weapons, outfits and residents

Thats all I have for now, maybe readers could post more what they think would make this game better.

Hopefully this will be read, thanks again Bethesda.

I want storage room people have some benefit

My idea is storage room people should be a vault guard. Automatically go to help any incident happen

Thanks for posting this thread - I've been looking for a suggestion thread that isn't some shrieking, semi-literate rant.

I've got the Android version, so I've just started playing a couple of days ago. Still, I'd like to add a couple of suggestions that would make the game more enjoyable for me.

1. Some sort of auto-recall function for wasteland explorers. Let us be able to order them to return to the vault after some number of hours exploring, or when their health drops to some percentage, say 25%.

2. When sending armed dwellers to deal with raider or radroach attacks, please have them follow the attackers when they leave the room they're in to go someplace else, instead of just standing by the door so you have to drag them into the room to which the attackers have moved.

3. A pregnancy timer. It'd be nice to have some sort of idea how much longer my ladies have to go before they give birth.

I'll add more as I think about them. Thanks!

ETA - another suggestion. Given the frequency of raider attacks, could we get even a small possibility of a weapon or outfit drop when we defeat them? At least then we get a chance to get something in return for them beating up on our dwellers and stealing our food and caps.

I want to proposed that the first 3 plant should use 2 stat instead of 1

I mean

- Power Plant should use both Strength and Intelligence

- Water Plant should use both Perception and Endurance

- Cafeteria should use both Agility and Charisma

Also storage room and six should prefer no stat

So starter will be fine with any stat of dweller they got. Currently now if anyone get people with I E C without S P A at start they will have too much hard time

Suggestion :

  • Could we have kid can use training room? Something like any room that kid grow up will plus 1 on that stat

  • Radroach should do less damage but make some rad up. So we have more need to use radaway and less stimpack

  • Vault guard should be able to attack raider before the door broken. So they get free shot or could kill off before they come in

UI :

  • Training room should have selection list menu like other room. So we can select people from the room instead of dragging people across vault

  • So do to residence room. Actually it should not drag people. It should have menu of male and female selection

  • Level bar of child should reflect on growth. It will be like level 0 to 1

Bug :

  • When we drag people to fight raider in any room. They don't follow raider but stuck as member of that room and need to drag them back

I don't know this is bug or intention but it no good. It difference from other kind of incident. And I want to have our best fighter follow raider all the way

  • Sometimes after pregnancy begin. I can't drag the pregnant woman

I press at that woman and it can't drag her, just move camera. I need to close the app and reopen to fix it

I don't know if this is a bug or if the game is designed this way, but dwellers stationed at the vault entrance don't seem to level, or at least level so slowly that they may as well not level at all. You end up having to make dwellers take turns at the entrance so you have more powerful defenders there, and give the ones who "finish their shift" a chance to level by doing other jobs.
