An open letter to crytek (constructive criticism)

Hi. I've enjoyed playing crysis since the Crysis 1 days. I've played Crysis Wars and i now play Crysis 2. Basically the crysis series have been the only shooters who interests me because of the unique gameplay with the suit modes, and now the suit modules, offering vast combinations.

But i write this because it is obvious that the mistakes made in crysis 1 is not learned by crytek. And i want to address that in case some of them might be listening.

Because whilst they make great games with terrific and visionary gameplay, they have zero cheat support, and they stop updating them. Which just causes the game to die, because people can't play it competitively with it being so extremely easy to cheat.

Crysis 1 even saw the dawn of Clan HAX who were proud of hacking and masskilling etc. Crytek did nothing, total silence.

Crysis Wars, amazing game aswell. saw the dawn of norecoilers and more cheating. This time crytek half arsed it and offered punkbuster. A completely ill equipped and outdated solution that cheaters and hackers laugh their pants off at. bugs several years old in crywars have yet to be updated too. Like the autobuy all nades in spawntruck which causes you to be unable to reload untill you die.

Crysis 2 again fantastic game, but again we see people speedrunning with unlimited ammo and other kinds of assorted craptastic stuff.. And various norecoil bugs etc. And per regular crytek speed.. 6 months old bugs have yet to be addressed.. as others have mentioned in this forum.

What is it you don't get crytek? You may have a million fans on facebook but competitive players can't take games seriously that are handled in such a way. It's like everytime you make a game you create a beautiful painting, terrific gameplay, that just feel amazing to play.. And then you toss it in the garbage bin, and let the roaches eat it up, right after you've gotten done making it, and go on to the next game.

There's a reason why ancient games like quake(3)live and counter strike has gone strong competitively for sooooo long. Even featured at professional tournaments. And why crysis is nowhere to be seen with regards to that. And won't untill crytek changes their mind.

It's because of anti cheat support, and bug fixing.. They are complete crap compared to the crysis series both gameplay and visually.. but guess what.. the aforementioned makes the difference between 10.000 players and half a million or more.

Two cardinal rules of making a great game go even stronger?

1. FIX THE DAMN BUGS IMMEDIATELY LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. Who wants to keep driving around in a ferrari with 3 wheels and where you can't shift in 3rd and 5th.

2. INSTALL CHEAT PROTECTION AND ACTIVELY PERSECUTE AND BAN CHEATERS. Cryteks lack of seriousness with regards to this particular issues draws hackers and cheaters from all other games directly to the crysis series like a moth to the flame, because they've learned through the years that crytek gives **** all about cheat protection. And when the cheaters come, the real players leave. It is very common to see cheaters empty out servers within the matter of 5 minutes, because there's just not much they can do about it. Crytek, what do you think this does to the amount of players who play your game?

Votekicking doesn't always work either because they add special characters in their name that apparently the votekick command doesn't accept. Hackers did the same thing in crywars too.. Still the same lack of seriousness..

Finally, it is great you want to make a game for consoles too. But please don't shaft the PC community. The lack of seriousness with regards to bug fixing and cheat protection has the effect of pissing against the wind.

Sincerely

I totally agree, but then again, Crytek was never really known for having great post-release support

It will be interesting to see how they handle the FTP model (Warface).

Aside from a corporate distaste for support, and a cultural inability to communicate with and nurture their fans, it has often appeared that they are utterly baffled by their own brilliant code.

Kind of a 3-way disconnect for successful free-to-play, no?.

Let me tell you now, if they keep up this dreadful communication, and carry it through to the life-span of warface then that game is going to be a bigger fail than any other.

The thing about online gaming is that constant communication between players and devs are crucial.

Online racing game with i think 5M+ active players.
Every week they host a "Ask marc" Where the public are asked to say questions which they would like to be asked and answered, the top10 most liked comments will be answered in the "Ask Marc" Episode.

And also, say if servers are down unexpectedly, even if its for like 30min...
Free in-game codes are given away to all players.

They host 3 contests every week giving a total of 100+players to win a prize in the game every week.
Forums are maintained every day as well.

Lets just hope crytek learn from the past.

Considering they have 5M+ active Players and they have been opened for less than 2years since there beta i think its pretty good :)

Agreed not only for the computer but the consoles also. Every game the host goes to the worst connection and everyone is getting sponging and delays also 9/10 times when the host leaves it is meant to migrate the session but it kicks everyone out why? I have been cheated out of over 1000 wins due to this. Crysis 2 has so much potential for the competitive and casual community but you guys need to get the gears in motion fix the bugs fix the glitches fix the migrating sessions fix the sponging and you have yourselves an master piece that gamers from all over the world will flock to. Do not drive your community away cater to them dedicate yourselves to them and your game will be incredible as well as being very profitable for yourselves. Come on guys get your hats on and make crysis the game it deserves to be.
