Open World Star Wars game

For a possible new game idea, I think that creating an open-world, skyrimesque Star Wars game could be really cool. Especially the first person perspective in a jedi battle would be interesting. Star Wars Galaxies has that annoying monthly fee, since it's an MMO, and is only for the PC. KOTOR, while a great game, is all third person and the battles aren't active. You click a button and watch your character carry it out a few seconds later. A first person, open-world Star Wars game for the console, would be the first of its kind. Imagine exploring the galaxy, having lightsaber battles, and mastering the force all from the perspective of the jedi/sith. You could even have alternate classes for those who want to play as something other than a force sensitive. If there is any company that could do this idea justice, it's Bethesda.

Thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

EA have an exclusive Star Wars deal for the next decade, so don't expect any Star Wars from anyone else anytime soon. And Bethesda rather work on their own IPs than using others.

Also, an open world Star Wars game might already be on it's way; http://kotaku.com/thats-no-moon-thats-a-possible-open-world-star-wars-ga-1472612003

I personally do not think it would be that interesting. Since the only interesting class would be a Jedi and even then I do not think it is that interesting.

There has been too much Star Wars games over the past few decades.

Besides, a Star Wars open world game would absolutely demand various forms of vehicle combat and gamesas has yet to figure out combat on horseback. I suspect there are far better choices for who could bring this to reality, but it's a great idea.

I used to play SWG back in the day, pre combat upgrade. I think there's some attempt to emulate it still, google SWGEmu.

Maybe you're going Starwars-Battlefront-big with this idea. I personally see it on a much smaller scale.

Jedi = dragonborn

The force = Shouts/school of magic

Landmass = planets

horses = landspeeders

melee weapons = lightsabers

bows/crossbows = blasters/guns

Taverns = Cantinas

and so on..

I'm not sure how I feel about a Skyrim dipped in Starwars paint. But I know that more games like this will demand more innovation from the genre as a whole. MMO's are a prime example.

So Tim's point is still good since they can not figure out how to do combat with horseback, how are they going to do Landspeeders, AT-ST's and such.

I really do not think it would work well as a game since there has been way too many Star Wars games and 95% of them have been garbage. The last good Star Wars game Was X-Wing Series and Dark Farces 1 and 2.
