Operation Anchorage Questions

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:06 pm

First off, let me state that I am aware that Operation Anchorage is supposed to be a
simulation by Gen. Chase and therefore obviously is not entirely accurate to the
Anchorage campaign, but I can't help but wondering on a few of the following things.

1) Why is it, that during the simulation the Chinese are using AK's which fire
5.56 ammunition? Instead, why aren't they firing 7.62 x .39?

2) Why is it that, US forces in Alaska are using a WW1 style "trench knife", when it
would make more sense for them to be using their R91 Rifle Bayonet instead?

3) Why is it, that in the 21st Century officers in the People's Liberation Army, are
still carrying swords into battle?(An accoutrement which went out of style for officers in
the field, in the early 20th Century).

4) Why is General Chase wearing a Gestapo-style overcoat?(I've heard the responses on this
in regards to the Enclave to give them a larger aura of evil, but why an officer in the
US Army be wearing such an article of clothing).

5)Women serving in combat in the US Army?(If you are going by the values and attitudes of
the time, women would be restricted to support roles).

6)Why is the American War Correspondent wearing civilian clothing?(Even during the Korean
War, correspondents wore a version of olive drab combats).

7) Why are the Chinese using the American model "sniper rifle"? Shouldn't they instead
be using either the Mosin-Nagant or the SVD?

8) Why are the Chinese using American style missile launchers, instead of the Soviet style
RPG-2?

9) Why is it, that the Chinese Special Forces are referred to as Crimson Dragoons, when
they obviously are not employed in an armored role? (It would have made sense,
if they either served in an anti-armor role or were attached to an armored, armored recon,
or mechanized division).

10) Why are the Chinese using the Chimera in an armored role?(Apparently it was a
fabrication by General Chase, but for what purpose?).

1) Why is it, that during the simulation the Chinese are using AK's which fire
5.56 ammunition? Instead, why aren't they firing 7.62 x .39?
Because there is no point of changing Chinese Assault Rifle's ammunation to 7.62 just after it was working with 5.56 in vanilla.
The 5.56 was also explained with that Chinese soldiers and 5th columnists in American could use captured American ammo for their own guns.

2) Why is it that, US forces in Alaska are using a WW1 style "trench knife", when it
would make more sense for them to be using their R91 Rifle Bayonet instead?
Game mechanics don't include ranged-melee combination for a single gun, and a trench knife was easy to make from the vanilla Combat Knife.

3) Why is it, that in the 21st Century officers in the People's Liberation Army, are
still carrying swords into battle?(An accoutrement which went out of style for officers in
the field, in the early 20th Century).
Japanese Officers were equipped with hand-made Katanas 'till 1945, and I think in Fallout world the tradition was passed to the Chinese by Americans as an Asian clich? to point out that they are traditional and obsolete people.

4) Why is General Chase wearing a Gestapo-style overcoat?(I've heard the responses on this
in regards to the Enclave to give them a larger aura of evil, but why an officer in the
US Army be wearing such an article of clothing).
The Geheime Staatspolizei didn't wear coats that resemble Chase's or Autumn's coats. They either wore civilian clothes (such coats were in fashion back then) or military outfits (SS or custom)
Trench coats is not related to National Socialism in any way.

5)Women serving in combat in the US Army?(If you are going by the values and attitudes of
the time, women would be restricted to support roles).
I think that was either a mishap by Bethesda or that they didn't want to risk it that they were sued for sixism.

6)Why is the American War Correspondent wearing civilian clothing?(Even during the Korean
War, correspondents wore a version of olive drab combats).
Dunno.

7) Why are the Chinese using the American model "sniper rifle"? Shouldn't they instead
be using either the Mosin-Nagant or the SVD?
The effort-result ratio of making new weapons just for this cause is low. Bethesda wanted to focus on the quests rather than pointing into making new details.

8) Why are the Chinese using American style missile launchers, instead of the Soviet style
RPG-2?
See the answer to 7.

9) Why is it, that the Chinese Special Forces are referred to as Crimson Dragoons, when
they obviously are not employed in an armored role? (It would have made sense,
if they either served in an anti-armor role or were attached to an armored, armored recon,
or mechanized division).
Because the name is cool?

10) Why are the Chinese using the Chimera in an armored role?(Apparently it was a
fabrication by General Chase, but for what purpose?).
IIRC they were former civilan economy machines used to drill into mountains in search for oil.
They were probably converted into tanks as a "oh sh.." emergency weapon when USA started to deploy Power Armor.

Answers in bold.

They Don't Use Regular AKs, They Use AK 112 Which was built by the Chinese Military to Use 5.56 mm Round, BTW it's Lighter than 7.62 x .39 mm.

2) Why is it that, US forces in Alaska are using a WW1 style "trench knife", when it
would make more sense for them to be using their R91 Rifle Bayonet instead?
They Tought it was "Cool"...?

3) Why is it, that in the 21st Century officers in the People's Liberation Army, are

Fallout is Influenced by the Retro 50's Culture and Facts. Officers Carried Swords in 50's and so on...

4) Why is General Chase wearing a Gestapo-style overcoat?(I've heard the responses on this
in regards to the Enclave to give them a larger aura of evil, but why an officer in the

Go Ask Him. He Might Get Suspended tough...

5)Women serving in combat in the US Army?(If you are going by the values and attitudes of

Really ? Report them to the Military Department... lol.

6)Why is the American War Correspondent wearing civilian clothing?(Even during the Korean

The Military were out of Clothes / Armor.

7) Why are the Chinese using the American model "sniper rifle"? Shouldn't they instead
be using either the Mosin-Nagant or the SVD?
Maybe They should.

8) Why are the Chinese using American style missile launchers, instead of the Soviet style
RPG-2?
Who says Launchers are American?

9) Why is it, that the Chinese Special Forces are referred to as Crimson Dragoons, when
they obviously are not employed in an armored role? (It would have made sense,
if they either served in an anti-armor role or were attached to an armored, armored recon,

That's a Typo, They are Crimson "Dragons".

10) Why are the Chinese using the Chimera in an armored role?(Apparently it was a
fabrication by General Chase, but for what purpose?).
Really? I Never Noticed....

Where'd you get then info that the Chimera Tank was a fabrication made by Gen. Chase? I don't see it mentioned in either the game, or the Wiki.

Anyway, if you're asking the point to the Chimera Tanks, the Chinese probably thought it easier to rig a laser gun and add extra armor to a mining vehicle than to import proper tanks from China.

Not only that but they are probably better suited to the terrain, as they were made specifically for it. Plus they can tunnel/burrow to surprise the evil americans.

Sorry RA but talk about the most pointless questions!

They can all be answered by: It's a game, not real life.

Judging by your post history, is this a lame attempt to bash Bethesda with the weapons of reality?
If yes, bad try.
It really seems like it, since no normal person gives a ship about these matters, and if does, he has brains to think the questions himself.
