Operative's Disguise Issue

Post » Tue Nov 02, 2010 1:57 am

So how will the Operative's Disguise ability handle pre-order clothing? I assume that when an Operative disguises themself they will appear the same as a member of the opposing squad, otherwise a clan can simply dress in a simillar fashion to alienate all disguised Operatives. That being said, if a squad wore pre-order clothing, you would have to appear with this clothing as well to avoid being easily detected, right?

Anyway, a detailed explanation of how the Operative's Disguise will work would be greatly appreciated, especially in regards to 'uique' clothing options.

And that would be a problem why?

If your computer can render the clothing on other players, your computer can do it for you as well.

If the pre-order bonuses are merely unlock codes it should not be a problem. If not, then technically those textures are not available to be replicated.

The items are in the game code, wether you can use them or not.

If you take someones outfit which includes a pre-order item, you'll use that item for the time being, too.

Not sure about this, but I believe your gun won't change apperance for the enemy. So they can catch you being disguised because they might remember that the guy did not use that sort of weapon before. Also in ETQW disguised enemies would lack key items (that shows on their armor) to the class they were disguised as.
So there was several ways to catch a disguised enemy.

Though, not sure if any of the above will be present in Brink though.

I think the weapon will change, since it's really only a prop anyway. Once they fire the gun, the disguise wears off.

Could be, what I'm wondering about though is if we can spot disguises through missing key items like in QW or if we have to rely on operatives to counter disguises.

Well I guess thats good, it was a bit too easy to spot disguises with visual clues. And it made disguises very little used.

If it truly is just up to Operatives and player behavior, I respect that choice. The more aspects of the game that tie into using classes together to be effective, the more it promotes a teamplay-focused atmosphere. I think it's great how many aspects of the game intertwine the players and classes.

Soldiers plant charges - Engineers defuse charges - Operatives throw EMP grenades to slow charge timer
Engineer plants turrets - Operatives can hack turrets - Operatives can toss EMP to disable turrets.
Engineer plants mines - Operatives can spot mines
Operatives can disguise - Operatives can detect disguised players
Player needs ammo on battlefield - Soldiers give ammo
Player needs health/revive - Medics heal and revive
Player needs cover - Soldiers can shield players
Operatives can hack - Engineers can destroy hack boxes

These are just some examples. I don't know any other games out (besides SD games) that offer this kind of interaction and focus on teamwork/classes.

You do, but you keep your speed, so if you were a Heavy disguised as a Light, you would still move like a Heavy.

So don't be a light that disguises like a heavy. ^_^

Think of it like the spy in TF2: if you are a heavy, it looks like you run too fast, pyro, just right! :flamethrower:

actually i think it was in a video that the way you catch an operative is that if they are light body type and copy a heavy yet there using smart or something a heavy couldnt do thats how youd figure it out.

Well he wouldn't be a very good operative if he didn't tone it down a bit.

I would actually (successfully) disguise as a spy, because it does make more sense for a spy to draw back than for a pyro.

Except when you disguise as a heavy you get the heavies speed, light on the other hand are obvious since they aren't last enough.

That's why you should choose wisely when picking a victim......but as soon as you shoot, you lose your disguise anyway so, eh.

When I asked if Brink has invisibility ItalianDevil said. "This is not a scifi game. No to all of your questions." Yet there's talk about people being able to disguise themselves as some one else by altering their body type? How can this be?
