my opinion

Post » Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:00 pm

i have just recieved fallout new vegas and i can tell you it is 10x better than fallout 3(and i did 200+ hours on fallout 3)

graphics- 7/10 they are basically the same as fallout 3

dialogue- 10/10 the people in the desert and towns have tons of conversation topics and the dialogue is quite clever, from the moment i stepped in goodsprings and talked to
Spoiler
easy pete
i was instantly hooked and he had so much to say.

gameplay- 8/10 the new features such as kill cam and ads have made my fallout experience 10x better and weapon mods are a god send. im amazed at the amount of ammunintion to buy , im stuck for choice.

ive been playing for about 5 hours and ive encountered 2 people floating in the ceiling and my game has froze twice but its nowhere near as bad as fallout 3 was (yet!)

but altogether a great game and im going to be playing for a long time and the main point is that the people in the game have so much dialogue compared to fo3 and actually interact with you and it makes you feel part of the game more than fallout 3 did!

I've played 7 hours since i got the game this morning and so far i am loving it. I've been quite lucky as i have yet to encounter any bugs except for the odd graphical glitch(on pc)

but i am sure i will come across more bugs as i play on... still, i'm loving Fallout New Vegas so far.

I, for one, disagree with your point about the story being better.

The premise of Fallout 3 was that you were born in a vault and then you come out to the world.
This new character in Fallout 3 is supposed to be a Courier and doesn't know anything about the land!
I'm not sure if I'm playing a western (like Red Dead Redemption) or a post-apocalyptic world (Fallout).

I agree that the dialog options are better. They introduce a great element of "Role" to the RPG that seemed to have lost it.

I already hate this game.
I got it two days ago and I'm already running on less than 3 hours of sleep per night!
LOL

(Meaning: I LOVE the game, I hate it keeps me up)

They should add a clock with the REAL time in the HUD!
That way I would go to sleep on time.

You got a good point there.

I enjoy the game for what it is but i really missed the dark metro tunels of capital wasteland.

I agree. So far I'm a lot more satisfied than I was with Fallout 3. Don't get me wrong, I liked Fallout 3. New Vegas just feels like it has more meat to it and I feel like I have more ownership of my character and my story. The story for Fallout 3 was ok, but it was so set-in-stone and spoon-fed to me that I didn't feel like I owned it. Besides, Fallout 3's story was largely bits and pieces of FO1 and FO2 mixed together. I guess you could say that most stories are a mixture of elements from other stories, though.

It (FO3) was a beautiful game, but I didn't feel like I had a lot of choices, and the choices I did have didn't have many real effects on my game. I'm only 18 hours into NV, and already even little things like inventory management have a more meaningful feeling to them.

F3 story = Rehash of F1 and F2.

Save your Vault/Tribe with GECK, find your Father/Tribe family members and destroy the evil president Eden/Richardson who wants to FEV everyone who is not pure.

So, about NV. What's so bad about innovation? It surely does not sound Red Dead Something to me. :sadvaultboy:

I'm impressed with this New Vegas. I've been wanting it since the mid 90's after Fallout 1 and 2. Yes I am sincerely sad that Dogmeat walked his happy ass all the way over to Washington D.C. Instead of stopping for a mating call in Vegas instead. WTB Dogmeat, Fallout: New Vegas. Rex is okay, here's an idea. Gimme Dogmeats Brain to stick into Rex then i'll be happy.

Sort of a Spoiler: Many of the creators from Obsidian Entertainment were from Interplay the original designers of Fallout 1 and 2. In FO1/2 They had an incredble story line with lots of people to talk to including talking faces *at the time of those releases, that was hot S***. Now you have Fallout: New Vegas back in charge by the Original creators. They had the story all plotted in head about how to work it.
One thing I can say about New Vegas, agree or disagree. I'm glad it's not scaled. You don't start killing radroaches, then move to ghouls, super mutants, enclave, game over. I'm glad it's consistant. You have to search for things that you want to see. The Main story line is phenominal, but that final boss is a B****. I went at him the wrong way, Out of Ammo with nothing but a Chainsaw and Power Armor.

I'm impressed with this game, anyone who isn't needs to play past goodsprings.

Um your point is?In 3 you go running out of the vault after your Dad.By the end its a typical good vs evil story with really nothing to it.In NV you are given so many different choices. For a game that is suppose to have replay value I would rather have choices.

"Post-traumatic Amnesia". He doesnt remember anything. Same as STALKER SoC, where the main character suffers from loss of memory after someone tried to kill him.

Yup for the most part,Legion come off as evil but other than that most are grayish.Sure NCR is generally good but for the people of the free waste they can be a pain.

Wait until you discover porm.

OT: The game's pretty good so far and I like most of the changes they've made for skills, perks, and so forth. The only downside is that I can't shake the feeling that I've already played this game. A lot of what keeps me going is new stuff, and I wish the junk (paper weights, plungers, etc etc) was different than what I've already seen.

As I have started a few characters trying to find one I like, I actually disagree with you there. There are dialog choices for players to ask questions about the land, but no one is forcing you to choose most of them.

An example: after finsihing the tutorial with Sunny, if you go back to the bar and talk to Trudy, she has two dialog options you can select, both of which "explain" reputation to the player. These really aren't role playing questions. The 2ed of those two less so.
Spoiler
"What happens if I help the Powder Gang?" Seriously? you would ask her that?!?

You don't have to ask questions about the NCR and others. I am sure if you role played the game on a second play through, you will notice you can bye pass a lot of the newb dialog options.
