Opinions on Aim Assist?

Post » Thu May 02, 2013 12:30 pm

I was bored of getting killed by seemingly god-like aim while I was jumping past enemies, so I decided to see if aim assist did anything to cause it.

For the next few games I did really well, getting the most kills without even trying much. It seemed like I just had to point the gun at someones' general area and hold down the trigger to instantly win the gunfight. I turned aim assist off when I first started playing, and now when I turned it on it seemed a lot less satisfying to win.

So what does everyone think about aim assist? How many people use it? Is it considered a "nooby" thing like auto armour?

Are we talking for a console or for a PC?

I'm on console, and I suppose it's a bigger issue for Xbox and PS3 users than PC players, since it's harder for us to stay on target without the help of aim assist. Thumbsticks aren't great for quick and precise movements!

Yeah, the standard has been to include aim assist in most FPS console games (I believe?). So, to remove it now or to not use it would be kind of devastating; especially when it comes to single shot weapons that require integer/discrete based aiming (lol, just came up with that term).

So, in conclusion, my vote is to say it isn't nooby because it's been the status quo for a long time on that platform.

To play a console fps w/o aim assist seems kind of suicidal to me.
Then again, I'm terrible with dual anolog, so I can't really say much.

Not much you can do about it if the peripheral wasn't designed for FPS in the first place. Anologue sticks are designed for slower precise movement like platform games or driving games.

If you use a low sensitivity, no aim-assist could be better. With a high sensitivity it almost becomes a necessity.

I find most games to be not that much harder without aim assist. In some situations it's even benificial to have it turned off. But there are more situations where it will help. Especially with a high sensitivity.

What do you mean? It might take a bit of getting used to, for some people, but anolog sticks work perfectly fine for shooters.

Well.. It might be unpractical if you have some kind of muscle or joint disease...
