Opinions, Diamond City vs. New Vegas

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 6:38 am

Admittidly, I've not ventured to diamond city yet ( level 24, furthest south of the vault I've been is Cambridge/ Corvega, haven't really touched MQ yet )

Though I just want to know,is it all it's cracked up to be, like in the start of NV from the watertower in GS overlooking the Lucky 38 lit up at night, looked amazing to me, but DC doesn't seem very lit up from when looking from the wastes.

So what do you guys think?

Its a charming shanty town and being pretty much the capital of the Boston wasteland it has everything ya need, from guns to haircuts, not as big as NV, but to be fair, kinda hard being big as a city, when you're confined to the walls of a baseball stadium.

Wait, it's smaller than the strip?

I was expecting something much larger if I'm being totally honest with you, from the outside looking toward it seems huge, or are those surrounding areas?

Boston itself is pretty big, Diamond City is just a town in Fenway Park

True, New Vegas knocks Diamond City on it's a**, but this is Boston we are talking about. Diamond City is the best the area has to offer, aside from any settlements you can build.

Size wise.... probably not, but there is more in there. The strip was pretty bare if you get down to it. Just nice buildings and such. I haven't explored Diamond City much, but I saw alot of things that I intend to go back and investigate.

To clarify, Diamond City is smaller than NV.

Well its kinda hard to do a area comparison, but since the citizens only use the actual playing field to build there homes on, its not hard to assume its smaller then a place that host several large casino buildings.

Damn sounds a little underwhelming, I was really hoping for a "Jewel in the Wastes " with Diamond City < Even the name

I guess I'll see when I get there, and yeah NV strip only had 7 buildings you could enter if I remember right, but I'm talking the Aesthetics of it and the feel and just being wowed looking at it.

I don't have crazy high standards so I guess I'm asking will I be wowed by it, if I like Vegas so much?

Diamond city is better than any other settlement I've seen in fo3 or fo4, but it lacks the grandeur of the strip, not just aesthetically but thematically also.Diamond city is a collection of disparate characters and issues, with nothing of significance consuming the settlement like the conflict between the families in the Vegas strip, and the tension of the NCR's presence.
The strip was the intersection of a plethora of narrative elements in NV, while diamond city seems to lack any context or conflict of salience (other than synths occasionally infiltrating, but that applies to the totality of the commonwealth). You'll spend a lot of time 'collecting paint' without feeling as if you're influencing the politics of diamond city (from what I've played).

At least with Diamond City you don't have to travel hundreds of yards and through three load doors just to use the bathroom. New Vegas was large, but that honestly just made it worse. Diamond City is more *interesting*, for my opinion.

Aesthetic-God: Diamond City "feels" way bigger than New Vegas. The Strip was a big let down for me. Nothing to do except enter a couple of casino that are all meh. The Strip itself was barren

Diamond City is crowded and feel way more alive than most Bethesda's city. As always, it's scaled down to make it run on current hardware but the way it is designed is better than all of their past cities. Of course, this is my personal opinion. It is smallish, but feel bigger.

I personally thought NV had more 'awe'...more stuff to do...more traders...GRA, close enough to it as well...the thing I hated most about the strip is the 4-5 or so loading screens it took to walk through it..(freeside included of course)..

Honestly, compared to what else is out there it is the jewel of the Boston waste, its what ya can expect when ya weren't spoiled with a nuke protection system.

It's smaller but it's also of a greater density. It's a fairly authentic shanty town, with points of interest wherever you happen to gaze.

You guys are really killing my anticipation for Diamond City!

Regardless I'll have to go there, I was really hoping it would be as special as it's name and it sounds like it's not, consensus here is N.V > D.C by the looks of it, is it even well lit up?
By the "Shanty town" comment it seems like a King Size Replublic of Dave from FO3

Why does it seem so big from Corvegas roof?
Or are those just surrounding areas?

There is no question that entering the strip for the first time was a 'wow' moment. Big, intact pre-war buildings, bright lights, snappy music in the background - was a great moment to be sure. So yes, afraid this time around you'll have to settle for substance over form.

What other kind of town could you do in a baseball stadium?

You do realize it's just a baseball stadium don't you? Size wise, probably about the size of megaton, maybe a little bigger

If you'd have read the original post, I haven't been there or even near it, so no I wasn't aware it was inside of a baseball stadium, I didn't watch trailers or anything for the game as I wanted to go in totally blind. Exactly as I did with F1/ F2/ FO3/ FNV. Though F1/F2 were isometric, but I still went in unknowing what F1 even was back then.

I just reached Diamond City last night for the first time - my impression was that it's slightly smaller than Megaton, but has more shops and other points of interest. But the two are certainly comparable - much more so than Diamond City vs. the New Vegas Strip.

You're most likely looking at downtown Boston, not necessarily diamond city...you'll understand once your there...head on over..you don't really have to 'progress' any mission by visiting...well sorta, but not really..lol

Diamond City is more authentic. It has the vibe of a city that is missing from New Vegas. New Vegas seems like a Hollywood setting where it looks really attractive at a distance, but when you get up close it is nothing more than a piece of plywood. Diamond City was formed with the blood, sweat, and tears of its inhabitants, but New Vegas had House dress up a bunch of savages and have them act out a certain role.

I like Diamond city, it actually makes me sad knowing that rather than making more hub zones around the map they just made more "player built settlements". It could have been so much more. Diamond city seems alive, a lot more functional and realistic compared to New Vegas.

I like Diamond City but I did like Vegas more. Even though I was a little let down by Vegas.

Diamond City is mighty impressive considering it's really just a "city build in an area as small as a baseballfield. it even has working elevatorlifts.

I was very unimpressed with Vegas, small amount of enterable buildings where theywere mostly the same casino anyways but with different color palets.
