Both are good, but since you have to choose...get Dragonborn. New locations, more quests, etc.

Dawnguard has tons of stuff in it and dragonborn has a new piece of land to visit with lots of side quests.

I'd say dragonborn if you like dunmer, morrowind-e feeling, Neloth, sujamma and more.

Dawnguard is pretty awesome but...One aspect of the DLC svcks major mudcrabs imo.

If you have to get one first, I say Dawnguard. Dragonborn is best saved for last.

Spoiler
The DLC comes with random vampire attacks in the city holds. The vampires that attack the cities usually kill a good amount of NPC's leaving very little people in each hold

All of that^^^ Goes away after finishing the DG main quest but it's still annoying imo.

Yeah, I too found that aspect of Dawnguard annoying. I too would vote for Dragonborn, unless you are "saving" it.

I'd say just get dawnguard first.
Most people say it doesn't add new locations but Imo it's just not noticeable bec theyre spaced apart and integrated into the vanilla map.

I like the dawnguard and vamp armor better than Stahlrim and the netch leather stuff. Carved is sweet though.

Fort dawnguard > solstheim docks & skaal village

Apocrypha > soul cairn only slightly

Miraak > lord harkon though

Serana >>>>>>> that Nordic blonde from skaal or any other 2nd rate follower from db

You get huskies, death hounds and armored trolls from dg.

They also add redwater den where you can buy redskooma on dg which is something you'd prob like.

These are all IMO. Get them both. But I'd say get dg if u had to choose one first

Edit:
Only real edge db has over dg for me are the reiklings. General burnside is awesome

Dragonborn adds an entire new island, mq and a bunch of side quests.

Dawnguard adds the Dawnguard and Vampire factions, and new areas in mainland skyrim one that is actually quite large and I always get lost in it. Also has the best looking armor in the entire game.

But over all I'd say get Dragonborn if your only going to get one of them right now.

I probably wouldn't have bought dawnguard if I had checked it out first. I'd say go with Dragonborn. Only cool thing IMO (!!!) that Dawnguard adds is a crossbow

That aspect can easily be modded away by installing the "When Vampires attack" mod, certainly for players on a PC.

Dragonborn. Better side quests, more space to explore, more armor. It's especially fun when you're a Dunmer fan. I'm not saying I don't like Dawnguard, I love them both. It just depends on which you like more: Vampires or Dunmer?

Also, your wife sounds awesome...

I personally preferred Dawnguard to Dragonborn, but I prefer Hearthfire over both.If you've in the market for one, I'd get Hearthfire. It offers perhaps the most to do, of course no real quest lines but it's kept me busy far longer than the others, as I'm still decorating my homes. And who doesn't want their own home with 12 different manikins to dress up and stuff?

I got a really bad vibe from Dragonborn the entire time I was playing it. I really disliked the HM realms, the morrowind-esque-ness of the expansion seemed dull and dry, and the house you get is probably worse than Breezehome. That being said, the quest line is very fun, the new content is great (especially for crafters) and new exploration is always a bonus.

As for Dawnguard, the 'new' places to visit were a touch more original, more energetic, and more lively (ironically).

Hope I didn't give anything away with spoilers, but it's hard to recommend one without stating a little of why.

Of course, this is all my opinion :]

They are both good. I'd probably choose Dragonborn, but they both have good things. Depends on what you like.

Dragonborn has:

New land to explore. A lot of new armours (chitin, bonemold, carved nordic, stahlrim + some others). Morrowind-stuff (those armours I mentioned, booze, Telvanni, Skaal, Redoran ++). Main quest and prenty of side quests.

Dawnguard has:

Two new opposing factions to choose from, and a questline for them. Vampirism and lycanthropy perk trees. Crossbows. A few new armours, weapons (dragonbone weapons :hubbahubba:) and dungeons (some really epic ones). Oh, and did I mention crossbows?

It's hard to chose between DG and DB...

Spoiler

Things i like from Dawnguard:

- The dungeons are really dark and i like them more than vanilla Skyrim. It was the first time when i had to use candlelight spell.

- Killing Falmers - even after i learn about their history, i still enjoy killing them

My favorite area in vanilla Skirim is Blackreach...

- Werewolf or/and Vampire Lord Perks.

- Soul Cairn - could be bigger with more enemies, but you get a lot of soul gems here and also you get a horse that you can summon any time you need it.

- The Reaper's Lair.

- The missing markers in Forgotten Valey - i spent a few days exploring every corner of this area and it's worth every minute here.

- Serana - one of the best followers in the game. It can be annoying sometimes when she repeats the same thing again and again and again (maybe she's a servant of Sheogorath)

Things i like from Dragonborn:

- The story is much better than Downguard's story (either sides).

First time i went to Solstheim i couldn't start the main quest (i didn't advance in Skyrim's main quest), but i explored the island and made some side quest until i got to Skaal village and i found a book "The Guardian and the Traitor". I wanted to learn more about the story behind Miraak, so i went back to Skyrim and took the path of the 7000 steps, so i can begin Dragonborn's main quest.

There are many interesting books that you can find only on Solstheim.

- Finding more about Morrowind's history.

- Interesting side quests, puzzles, treasure hunting...

- Best boss fights (Kartaag an Miraak).

- Apocrypha (the plain of Hermaeus Mora).

- Killing rieklings - they are a good replacement for falmers.

Overpriced for 20 €, but still good content in both of them. If you have to choose, get Dragonborn.

As a PS3 user I was forced to purchase the DLC backwards, so I started with Dragonborn before Dawnguard. I must say, after playing Dragonborn first, I viewed Dawnguard as inferior to DB. I found solstheim to be absolute fun, all the new shouts, armors, weapons, landscapes, NPC's, quests, black book powers, etc. I spent a few weeks playing Dragonborn exploring, just alot of cool stuff to be discovered. I didnt leave Solstheim until Hearthfire and Dawnguard became available.

My second playthrough of Dawnguard I enjoyed better than the first time, but its still not as lengthy as DB if you complete all quests. So I guess it just depends on the player, but I recommend Dragonborn if you plan on purchasing just one DLC. However with Dawnguard you get a crossbow which is awesome to use. Turning into a vampire isnt as cool as one would think, and Serana is a powerful ally but annoying as hell. One plus with Dawnguard is the Forgotten Vale, my favorite part of the DLC. Great place to travel through.

For Valentine's Day, choose Heathfire Sir.

Play away from home with your Waifu and settle down in a cookie-cutter love nest.

That's morning sorted out.

The rest of the day?

Try not to make eye contact with the Mrs.

She'll know somethings not up to snuff.

Mine does.

Ev-er-y flipp-ing time.
