Opinions on exclusive in-game items in a Collector's Edition

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 6:22 am

It would seem that many people on this site have many different views about just what should be included in a Collector's edition.

One particular topic of debate seems to be in-game items, so I decided I would make a poll to see just how everyone felt about exclusive in-game content that would possibly be included. So, what is your opinion on the prospect of exclusive (the key word) items?

I voted other. I don't just think there should be exclusives for the CE that are then available to everyone else later. That's just stupid. I think there should be no exclusives in-game whatsoever. No exceptions. Out of game? That's fine, because that's what you paid for, and in-game stuff just doesn't make sense to me for a TES game. Make it like Oblivion's CE, at the minimum, and that should be fine.

I'm against them. I think the game content should be equal to everyone at launch. Also, in-game exclusive for collector's editions just seem cheap. real collectors want physical items that can actually be collected.

I don't object to in-game items or even a short quest being included in a CE as long as the loss isn't noticeable. However I would prefer that a CE not have any in-game content, I'm much happier with physical things like art books or tchotchkes.

Against in-game bonuses
I am a collector myself and will buy the collector's ed but it's not fair to have special in game content. It's like slicing the game and giving more to those who pay more. The collector's edition is meant for collectors, so it should contain collectible physical items.

That's not what i buy a Collectors/Special Edition for. I don't really care since i would most likely not download it anyway but i don't think it's fair to those who want it but don't want to pay for the more expensive collectors edition.

I`m sure that a lot of people bought the original Oblivion and then the KO9 and Shivering Isles expansions-so what`s the difference in having an expansion pack with the Collectors Edition:
People would still be paying extra money for it.

i'm fully expecting there to be pre-order exclusive DLC like pretty much all of the games Bethesda's published since Fallout 3. the CE would probably include all of that in one place.

Out of game stuff is awesome...in game items always irks me but it's not a deal breaker.

In-game items for "the elite few" who pre-ordered/bought from a certain location/shelled out more for the "extra-special collector knicknacks edition" = teh ebil. Just say no. Don't do it.

There are no collector editions available here most of the time, so I'll have to order one from Europe or US. And there is a problem, collectors edition will cost $60+ and a regular DVD in a jewel case costs around $19. So uh... there is no way I'm going to pay three times the price for a couple of trinkets.

I think in game content bonuses are stupid. Everyone should get the same package.

I would love it if it came with things like a nice map of the game, or a making off DVD. Never cared about in game items, most of the time it's just overpowered nonsense.

Physical extras are saying "you can buy the game, but if you pay more, you can have some cool. collectable stuff."
In game bonuses say "you can have most of the game, but if you pay more, you can be the proud owner of the whole game. Oh, and the DLC is already coded and ready to go, could be in the game, but we can milk you for even more cash."

Pfff, How is it not fair that the collector's edition comes with extra stuff? That's what makes it better than the standard edition.... That's why it's the collector's edition! Not to mention, the option in the poll says "It should be available to everyone", but the thing is, the collector's edition is available to everyone.

In-game exclusive stuff doesn't make sense to you and some others here, but it sure does make sense to those who want to shell out the extra cash for any collector's edition versions. I see things the opposite of you. What I see in most "out of game" stuff from collector's editions as worthless or useless, whereas an in-game collector's edition item is actually useful because it can enhance a player's game for a while. Not fair you say? Too bad because if someone is willing to spend more money for a slightly different version of the game, there should be more benefits available other than some crappy quality dust collector "out of game" stuff.

If they add In-game content it should either be available DLC a month or so after release, or small stuff so the rest of the gamers dont feel too left out.

Then it should be called 'enhanced' or 'complete' edition, not 'collector's'. And how far this 'slightly different version' should go? Quests, locations, items that are cut from the 'poor's' edition and only available for collectors? I'm sorry to disagree, but I think that's exactly what collector's editions are supposed to bring, dust collecting 'out of game' stuff. For the in game bonus content they can always use DLC.
