Opinions on Steam

Hello everyone!

My friends and I have been talking about Steam quite a lot lately.

Some of us feel like it's a very good service that hasn't done anything wrong in it's history, or small enough wrongs that they can be accepted without a second thought. Some of us feel it's customer service is lacking, except when that point comes along, no-one has any concrete examples of such instances where the customer service has been lacking for people.

Some of us feel it's "too big to fail", just like a bank that's too big to fail.

Some of us feel that games cannot be successful, or at least not nearly as successful, if they aren't launched on Steam. Some of us feel there are plenty of services out there that do allow games to be successful even if they aren't launched on Steam.

So, this thread is about discussing steam. If you have positive things to say about steam, back it up with examples and evidence. If you have negative things to say about steam, back them up with examples and evidence.

Cheers.

I think Steam is a very good service for being a digital distribution service that sells PC versions of video games, however I don't feel positive about VALVe with the direction they are taking Steam. Paid mods was horrible, and the Steam client not being optional like gog.com's GoG Galaxy is what annoys me A LOT about Steam.

The customer service response to the support tickets is also terrible some PC gamers wait like two months to get a response.

Then there is the offline mode bug I have, which logs me into online mode to auto-update PC versions of video games that are singleplayer only, even though I have the auto-updates disabled. The same goes for the Steam client itself when it gets updates and I'm on offline mode.

That's all I have to say I think.

I voted very positive. I am happy with it and haven't had any issues. I use both Steam and GoG, and I have to say that I get the same quality of service from both.

I am not saying they are the same. I'm just saying that from my own personal experience I have gotten the same quality of service from both services, which is outstanding.

I was the first to vote and I chose "Mixed, but leaning towards negative." Negative because we are forced to use it. There could be good things in it, I don't care, not interested.
