My opinions of the game now

After the latest patch, my OpenGL problem was solved which actually means I can play this game without crashes. There are still a few bugs to be ironed out though.

So I have played the game for about 10 hours and really get this game now. I understand what it is all about.

PROS

1. The sound effects are awesome!
2. The game can re-create intense battle like no other I know. Initially I thought the game engine wasn't up to much but I now realise that it is rather good. I am used to playing Crysis 2 (CryEngine 3) but find the Brink engine to be just as capable, quick, responsive and detailed.
3. This is the first game I have played in which I would like to see it at 1920 x 1280 resolution. My screen doesn't cater for this so might splash (damage) out and get one! Not even Crysis 2 prompted me to do this!
4. Actual game play is very interesting and gives a reason for playing instead of blasting Aliens out of the sky. The idea of sub-plots which continually change in real time is a superb idea and I think Bethesda are onto a winner here.
5. The individualisation of this game is second-to-none.
6. Intricately designed and well thought out maps with lots of choke points.
7. The Arc itself has not revealed itself so I think there is a tremendous amount of scope for new maps and new ideas which Bethesda could play on in new packs.

CONS

1. Short challenges and play throughs.
2. The obvious bugs which are present right now across the different platforms make some players unable to play the game. (I was one of them until the last patch!)
3. Controls can be fiddly. (I am looking forward to the new Razer controller which might solve this)!

This game after some initial negative impressions really appeals to me now. I understand what it is all about. Its an awesome game and I love playing it!!

You need to be more critical then this. This game is no where close to a ten.

Maybe it's potential is. But the problem there is that's not what we got.

You are right in fact. The thing is, any game cannot please everybody, everywhere. For some people Brink is a disaster and for others it is awesome. Many people are claiming it is an unfinished game and it is still in its beta form. In some ways I tend to agree but then this indicates that the game has potential. So what if they released it early. This is because they are meeting many people's expectations financially and probably legally. They said it would be released on a certain date and they have done so. I have no problem with this. It's only a game, lets get it into perspective!!

I think the game has great potential and the groundwork has been done by Bethesda. I did criticise this game a great deal when it came out but my opinion of it changed as I began to understand its mechanic and purpose. For me this game is a far more sophisticated version of Team Fortress 2 with a lot more depth to it. Give it time guys and I am pretty sure that this game will be a success and go down as one of the great games of our time.
