Optimizations for Quad+ Core Systems

Post » Tue Jan 01, 2013 12:15 pm

In your ..\My Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Fallout.ini file make the following changes (after updating your G4WL):

[General]bUseThreadedBlood=1bUseThreadedMorpher=1bUseThreadedTempEffects=1bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1bUseThreadedAI=1iNumHWThreads=4 (set this to the number of CPU cores you have)[Audio]bMultiThreadAudio=1[HAVOK]iNumHavokThreads=4 (set this to the number of CPU cores you have)[BackgroundLoad]bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1

Lets test this configuration after acknowledging the two drawbacks: Since Fallout 3 was not initially intended to run this multithreaded there may be some stuttering (input, video, or audio) and the exit is ungraceful (meaning after you exit the game the Fallout3.exe process must be killed). There are advantages. One appears to be frame rate taking off so those with high native resolutions may see the most benefit.

Lets figure out all the pros and cons to maxing out multithreading for Fallout 3!

Full native resolution Ultra display settings are not an issue now. Looking into some of the [Display] settings that are still disabled after the Ultra configuration is set to see if they make a noticeable difference. bAllow30Shaders=1 probably means allow 3.0 version Shaders and may give a performance boost to those who have GPUs that support version 3.0 Shaders. I don't know if a quality difference is noticeable . . .

I'm partially color blind so perhaps someone else that isn't could try this and confirm whether they notice a quality difference . . . They would be better judges for testing the bHighQuality20Lighting=1 option as well (funny that wasn't enabled for HDR mode . . .).

Bonjour, monsieur administrateur

Merci du conseil, je vais pouvoir enfin jouer sens être coupé par un message de problème, ne faisant pas répondre le programme au bout de 5 minutes de voir 10 minute de jeu.

( Est que je dois mettre CE + les coeurs que je possède où pas ?

Cordialement Vaccio.

You may have to help me on the translation a bit, as Google translate isn't ready for prime time yet it seems:
Hello, Mr. Administrator

Thank you for the advice, I can finally play sense be cut by a problem message, which do not meet the program after 5 minutes to see 10 minutes of play

(Is that I need + the hearts that I have that right?

Sincerely Vaccio.

les coeurs = the hearts? (I bet it was supposed to be "the cores")

It sounds like it is working for you, which is great! The bMultiThreadAudio=1 option was actually necessary for me to resolve some DirectSound issues that were causing intermittent lockups/freezes.

If your game is still locking/freezing (before exit) make sure the option I talked about in the previous post is enabled and check to make sure ALchemy support is disabled for Fallout 3. This will only be the case if you are using a Creative Labs Sound Blaster audio device and the ALchemy EAX software support utility is installed.
