Option to hold down crouch/zoom

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:39 am

If any of you played Killzone 2 or 3 then you should be familiar with the option to hold down the button to crouch/zoom, as opposed to hitting the button once to do either and then having to hit it again to get out of that action. Obviously I prefer the former because control-wise it feels more realistic for me to do so. Will this option be in Brink?

I'm not sure if anyone here knows for sure, however judging by how customizable SD is making the controls, I think hold to crouch will be an option.

toggle crouch is FAR easier and more efficient - i doubt very much that it will have the option to turn that off

Toggle crouch FTW. :thumbsup: Hold crouch doesn't make sense to me and I always wondered why it was the default in halo games.

Yes, hold/toggle options are available for both crouching and aiming down sights.

I will try to find the link where I found this information.

EDIT: It's from H0RSE's http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-4-controls-hud-and-everything-else.html

Default Xbox 360 controls:
RT = shoot
LT = aim
LB = sprint/SMART
RB = grenade
X = action/use (give ammo, give health, interact, etc.)
B = crouch
Y = switch weapons
A = jump
LS = buff self (give self ammo, health, etc.)
RS = melee
Up = Objective wheel
Left, Right, Down = class abilities

Invert Up/Down Aiming:
On/Off

Aim Sensitivity (Vertical)
X degrees/second

Aim Sensitivity (Horizontal)
X degrees/second

Aim Acceleration (Vertical)
Low, Medium, High

Aim Acceleration (Horizontal)
Low, Medium, High

Crouch - Hold/Toggle
IronSight - Hold/Toggle

Also if you are a fan of Killzone you will be happy to know (if you don't already) that Brink allows you to choose from a variety of control schemes, including "Zone of Killing" which I would assume is very close to Killzone's controls.

There is also the option of fully mappable controls for both PC and consoles.

Hope this answers your question. :smile:

TBH I never gave it much thought until I played KZ2 and when I first tried the hold down option I will admit it was akward at first, a bit more difficult..... especially when holding down crouch and zoom at the same time. I got used to it though and now I prefer it because it feels closer to real physics.... it should take some effort to crouch and zoom. I just hope that you don't have to hold down the button to sprint because the button configuration I will use will probably interfere with shooting at the same time.

Toggle crouch is important for many games, but I think it would be a liability with SMART. I'll try it both ways, but I think this will be the first FPS where I'd prefer crouch is a hold button instead of a toggle.

YESSS! Awesome, thank you jaina! I'll have you know many KZ2 fans are looking forward to Brink after the travesty that was KZ3.

i play on PC and i recently played borderlands and in that game the default is you have to hold down right click to aim down your sights. i loved this and it adds more realism and skill necessary to shoot guns and stuff.
most games are TOGGLE zoom/sights and i've changed all of my games to HOLD to zoom and crouch. i always thought the TOGGLE crouch was ridiculous in video games, it is so fake. plus if i jump through a window where i gotta crouch 2 get inside it's rare that i wanna stay crouched after i jump through it.
OVERALL - i prefer HOLDING down the button to zoom/crouch. it adds more realism and takes more skill to use IMO! :D

On consoles, where a lot of games default to clicking one of the sticks in to crouch, not having toggle makes it either REALLY hard to move, or really hard to aim.

And crouching is rarely needed in console games outside of situations where you'll be crouching for a short period at a time, so usually I prefer toggle.

but your reasoning, along with my own (see previous post) covers all the reasons I can think of why you wouldn't want toggle crouching in Brink.

I hope the option is there for players who prefer it, but I'm sure I won't.

i'm sure you can have either hold or toggle. most games got it that way :) we'll have to wait and see :D
