Option to turn off or censor insects

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:53 am

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both great games, but I never completed them simply because I have insectophobia.

I don't want the insects removed in Fallout 4, because that's one of the characteristics of Fallout games. All I'm asking for is the option to turn off or censor insects in the game so that people with insectophobia including myself can enjoy the game.

What if a mod turned them into something else? I was going to give examples, but all of them seemed like I was being snide, and I'm actually intent on asking a serious question.

Won't happen, didn't happen in Skyrim won't happen here. But mods can do it.

Face your fears head on and lay lead into the insects.

Best you can hope for is modding. Your target-group is otherwise negligible.

Also - what exactly do you mean by censoring them? Pixellate? Replace the models with something else?

That must svck, I doubt bethesda will add an option for it though, your best hope is through mods.

One of the first mods I saw was the one that turned spiders into bears.

In reality, if Bethesda feels unwilling to coddle gays and lefthanded people (and another big issue with some games is coloured map icons for the huge number of colourblind people) they're probably not going to add an insectophobia toggle either.

Bugs, are weak! You are strong! You have the power to crush them all! Their hive minds cannot match the intellect of humans!

Not to mention the fact ITS A FICTIONAL DIGITALIZED MUTANT VERSION THAT CANT PYSHICALLY HARM YOU IN ANY WAY!!

Actually there was a Skyrim mod call No Spiders.

Very popular with some people.

Changed all the spiders in the game in to bears.

Still creepy to see these bears being lowered down from the ceiling, but at least they didn't have eight legs.

I'm sure someone will come up with a mod like that for Fallout 4 insects.

The only insects in Fallout I'm wouldn't mind being gone are radroaches. Their slimy ass textures and ticking sounds. :yuck:

There are a lot of different phobias. I have acrophobia, I'm not asking for there not to be tall places in the game...

Is this really the world we live in? Where people ask for this degree of accommodation?

It is a perfectly fair request.

I think people should be allowed to ask for a reasonable accommodation.

They just got to know that the answer will most likely be no.

Unless it is a Bethesda game.

And since Bethesda fully supports the modding community it is highly likely to be granted soon after they releasing the modding tools.

Of course there is a dark side to modding.

Bethesda: We create great sand boxes so you can do what ever you want no matter how twisted. Have fun

The Thomas the Tank engine Skyrim mod still makes me shudder!

And I'm still trying to forget the Skyrim My Little Pony Dragon Mod. :(

there was a mod for skyrim that turned spiders into bears, so maybe through mods but I wouldn't count on it being an option in the vanilla game.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but seriously, do you really expect them to program the ability to turn off every kind of phobia that exists?

Since the are trying to enable mods on the consoles, they really are letting you find tune to your experience to exactly how you want it.

I have to say until this, I could never have played Fallout or Skyrim on a console.

Too addicted to being able to remove annoyances with a mod.

Lydia giving too much lip "I am sworn to carry your burdens." just load a mod!

I bet a mod could turn the weaker insects like radroaches and bloatflies into molerats and stronger ones like radscorpions into yao guai without it ending up weird.

This is serious, I can't tell if the OP is serious. To answer the topic at hand, I myself have beephobia (Or whatever it's called) but I wouldn't be scared of a bee on screen because I know it's not real.

I fear insects but not to point that fictional mobs on screen would disturb me. There will most probably a mod to remove them like in Skyrim.

It might work unless they have fancy spawning animations like spiders do in Skyrim.

From what we saw I doubt you could replace mole rats with something without it being weird, since they seemed to "burrow" into existence.

Honestly, that's a rather silly request, and I think you know that already. I see no reason for Bethesda to censor an entire enemy type because of your own personal issues. If it was something as small as gore, then sure I can see that being an option, but I doubt Bethesda will do this sort of thing.

Best you rely on a mod when the time comes.

It would be the other way around, the insects would be replaced with molerats, so they'd just already be out in the open unless the insects had some kind of special entrance animation but they never did before.
