Orc Lore

Hello,

I have read the wiki on Orc Lore but i have some additional questions...

1. What does Orcish architecture look like?

2. I am confused regarding these passages...

"Gortwog gro-Nagorm created the second incarnation, sometimes called Nova Orsinium, in 3E 399.[12] He gathered enough power to force Emperor Uriel Septim VII to formally recognize Orsinium as an equal of the other lesser kingdoms of the Iliac Bay region.[4] During the Warp in the West, Orsinium was one of the four kingdom to gain control of the Numidium, conquering the surrounding kingdoms and baronies and swearing loyalty to the Emperor.[13] Early in the Fourth Era, Orsinium was once again sacked by the Redguards and Bretons and presumably eliminated, and many Orc refugees were escorted to Skyrim by the Imperial Legion.[14]

[edit] Society"

"In recent years, Gortwog gro-Nagorm has promoted the idea that the Orcs worship Trinimac again instead of Malacath, a proposition which the majority of Orcs within Orsinium agreed with, while the majority of them outside Orsinium considered it blasphemous."

Is this last quote a mistake? I'm a little confused... In Elder Scrolls 5 does Orsimuim exist? Is Gortwog gro-Nagorm alive?

3. Should gro/gra have capitals?

4. Have any TES games featured Orsinium or other Orc Towns/Cities?

5. How long do Orcs live for?

6. A broad question involving the above, could anybody give me a quick run down of the situation for Orcs in Elder Scrolls 5?

I'm interested because i want to focus on Orc Characters and mabye one day make some Mods centered around Orcs. Even if anyone can point me in the right direction with links/books i could look at it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'll answer the ones i can remember, Hopefully someone will come correct my mistakes. 1 not sure i either haven't seen any or mistook it for a different type, 2 the second part goes in front of the first i believe, In lord of souls it's destroyed and the orcs go into exile also i don't think gortwog was alive by that point, 3 I think it's lowercase Sharn gra-Muzgob for example, 4 daggerfall had them couldn't play them though sadly and they where usually hostal, 5 i think about as long as a standard human though i may be wrong, 6 Not sure about how they're doing then since i've avoided a lot of info till recently for fear of spoilers, Though i think they're still in exile. Sorry for the parts of that i got wrong, my mind is usually rather muddled and i forget a lot of important details.

gro and gra are patronymics, meaning son-of, daughter-of. Comparable to the Arabic ibin- and bint-.

orcs live shorter lives, shor through a curse off of the nords and on to the orcs, i'd assume that an elderly orc would be around 60?

Unknown, though Orsinium in Daggerfall looked like a giant iron fort.

2. I am confused regarding these passages...

In Daggerfall, Gortwog gro-Nagorm forced the empire to recognize the orcs as Imperial citizens, instead of believing them as simple animals who are only a slight step above goblins, by using the Numidium.

However, sometime after The Oblivion Crisis, Orsiunium, the orsimer capital city, was sacked by the bretons and redguards. This isn't unique, as the bretons and redguards have been trying to kill off every orsimer since the first era.

Also, Malacath used to be Trinimac, but became the daedric prince, Malacath of Boethia did something bad to him. Gortwag wanted to steer the orsimer in that direction.

3. Should gro/gra have capitals?
no

4. Have any TES games featured Orsinium or other Orc Towns/Cities?
Daggerfall, but don't expect much, it's essentially a dungeon.

5. How long do Orcs live for?
60 at best, if I remember.

6. A broad question involving the above, could anybody give me a quick run down of the situation for Orcs in Elder Scrolls 5?
Redguards and Bretons are [censored]s, and the nords are chill to let the orsimer stay in Skyrim.

This is speculation on my part with little to no facts backing it up, but I think the Orcs may have a kind of Metallic Yurt kind of deal as far as architecture goes. They mention the city is made of Iron I believe and the Orcish armor looks asian/mongolian. Of course armor=/=architecture though. Picture it however you want until we actually get some real info on it.

Their armor though in Morrowind (the asian looking variety) was said to be of High Elven design. To have a city of metal of any variety though, they must be the epic masters of mining, and be used to having their cities be constantly rusting apart, putting their mining efforts to waste. So in joining the empire, their contribution would be to work in the mines while the rest of the empire would teach them how to build sensible houses instead of those residential ovens they had been building. There's not too much to that point anyway, as their houses in Orsinium were the wattle and daub type common to the region.

No, it was Arkay's fault.

Orkey = Arkay
Mauloch = Malacath.

Trinimac is Tsun. In a manner of speaking.

I never said a word about Malacath.

Trinimac is Tsun. In a manner of speaking.

Trinimac is the champion of Auriel, and Arkay is the son of Akatosh. One and the same? No. The corollaries should end, then?

Only when they are no longer conducive towards one's understanding of the material. Such comparisons are not useless. But there is a point in one's education when they no longer hold value to the learner.

I was of the mind Arkay is Auriel's vigil in the pantheon of mortal kind. With his Aurbis skin gone, Trinimac's self became Mauloch, the frame of bone became like the circle trick of his enemies.

Auriel saw the smoldering bone, with one eye in the future war. He raised the bones and named him son. "Go to the tribes of mankind, and give him this, your name: Arkay." Man accepted the corpse-minister of Alinor.

Hey,

Thanks a lot for all the replies.

This question is not Orc specific but i might aswell ask in this thread as its for my Orc/s in Skyrim... In TES lore does every person have the capacity to cast magic even a little if taught? Or is it more like "Wheel of Time" Where you are either born with the talent or not?

Thanks.

I wanted to add that by the time of "Skyrim", Gortwog would be long since dead. Also, the sack of Orsinium is only a few years after the Oblivion crisis, since an orc soldier in Keyes' novel "Lord of Souls" remembers when her mother died fighting during Orsinium's destruction; the soldier seems to be in her thirties or so. The novel is set 40-some years after "Oblivion".
