Orc monkey noses

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:11 pm

If I understand Malacath was 'father' of the Orcs but he does not have the stupid monkey nose according to his statues in OB and MW. Are Orc noses ever mentioned in lore?

Triminac's mutation into Malacath coincides with the Orc's mutation into orcs, but Malacath could probably make himself look like he has whatever nose he wanted to have.

Because I'm a modeller and may update the Orc head mesh to something more menacing and less comical. Unless there is some specific description to the contrary.

Perhaps the monkey noses are a hold-over from DnD style depictions of orcs. Until Morrowind, the orcs weren't even a playable race, they were just monsters to kill in dungeons. Well, there is the bit about that orc in Daggerfall, but I haven't played it yet. :P

So, in other words, maybe the noses and green skin go with being an 'orc.' Whereas, if we'd started out with Orsimer from the get-go, we might have non-green-skinned, tusked, thuggish, monkey-nose humanoids.

So...

Right, nothing in real TES lore that pins down what an orc is supposed to look like?

Isn't there a book in the TES world called "The Pig Children"?

Orcs look pretty piggish to me.

From the 'The Pig Children': "their brutal pig-like features". Sounds piggish to me too.

They are pig-like noses, obviously, and the reason they have them is to make them look like monstrous outcasts.

That's of course true, while the origins of the Orcs and Malacath may be interconnected, I don't think there's anything that forces Malacath to look the same as them.

But in any case, I believe it's as Alaisiagae said, the facial features of the Orsimer we see now are carried over from their origins as steriotypical D&D monsters, I suppose it's a similar situation to elf ears, I don't recall reading anything about why they're pointed in the lore, they just are because that's how elves usually look in fantasy, even if there is lore explaining where the ears or the noses come from, it would just be something thrown in later on to explain something that is really purely a design choice.

As far as I know, we know that what we see is how they're supposed to look in the lore, but I don't think we're told why.

I dunno. After being reminded of the book "Pig Children," the thought that popped into my mind was "Bacon." Green eggs and ham?

I think the male looks a bit too human with that nose, the pig nose might not be pretty (not that it's supposed to be.) but at least it helps to ensure they remain distinct among the traces of Tamriel. The female on the other hand doesn't look too different from in the original game, except for the lack of ears and teeth, but I'm assuming that's just in the picture, and they would still have them in the game.

There's no seperate male and female heads in Oblivion. I think that picture shows the original model and his altered one on the right.

I found the best explanation for this!
When Malacath was [censored] out of Boethia, he landed face first, which caused his nose to get crushed. When the elves that followed Triminac were mutating into orcs, they collectively dove face first into the ground to have the same kind of nose as Malacath.

Muthsera,

Pigs root and sleep in [feces].

Also, according to Pulp Fiction do not disregard their own feces.

Orcs come from feces. (See http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/changed_ones.shtml)

The physiological expression of the species correlates directly to their existential beginnings (and in my opinion, their ontological equivalent).

Yours in the Scrolls,

In-game texts claim otherwise.

Very disturbing. What's worse is when one starts understanding what the "Nine aperatures" are from the 36 Lessons of Vivec.

(count your orifices and "possible" orifices)
