Orc Sellsword archetype

Post » Sat Nov 02, 2013 10:03 am

As much as I told myself I would stick with one character and change classes when I got bored of magic, I just can't do it. I can't bring myself to completely change one character's style out of nowhere.

So here I go planning a new creation...

I'd like to do two things I've never tried before: an orc race, and using the speech perks. I'm thinking:

One Hand (maces? or axes?)

Block

Heavy Armor

Smithing

Enchanting

Speech

I'll make most of my cash through side quests and creating/enchanting/selling custom supplies to shopkeeps. The main goal is to move up in the world through earning cash as opposed to "saving the world" or helping my fellow residents (not that I'll be an outright ass, either).

Putting smithing & enchanting together so op :(

Just make sure you don't use any alchemy boost enchantments though if you're going to do this.

Definitely not doing alchemy, I'm doing it right now on my mage character and as fun as it is it's very taxing

Smithing + Enchanting is mainly to get the most money out of selling equipment, but yes, I'll definitely be enchanting my gear later on. Is it really that overpowered? I'm playing on Master diff.

if you use +blacksmith and +enchant potions you can make some ridiculously overpowered gear

I really feel like the following is okay:

Alchemy + Smith

or

Alchemy + Enchant

the reason is because if you do smithing and enchanting you can create flawless +quality gear and enchant it with dual enchants etc. Imagine using a Daedric 1h sword enchanted with Absorb Health + Absorb Stamina or Absorb Health + Elemental Damage, or Absorb Health + Paralyze.

The endless combinations of overpowered-ness is ridiculous, because not only will you have extremely strong enchants on your weapons due to +enchant skill level, but you will also have extremely high base damage on your weapons due to +blacksmith and the grindstone.

You'll be fine. My Orc enchants and smiths and I just don't wear the baddest of the bad. I use that to make money. I sometimes run around in iron armor just because I like the way it makes him look rough and tough. Just use self control and if you feel over powered, craft other gear without all of the insane boosts.

Drop the block and dual wield. Axe in one and mace in the other. Just my opinion, of course. This is really awesome when you use your natural ability.

If I may make a suggestion and I don't know how far you take RP'ing a character, but I have found it helpful, especially early on in my Orc's development, to visit the strongholds and pick up an Orc follower. To me, the dialogue of an Orc follower really helps immerse yourself in the Orc character by reminding you who you are. Especially for a first time Orc build.....which I basically was when I started mine. I'm usually a sneaky back stabber.

Malacath witness our deeds.

Naw man - you don't. You're limiting yourself from the challenge. Here's a tip - Put your 1st 15 levels directly into Health.

Sound advice, def RP'ing this fellow. And yes, enchanting+smithing gives me the ability to keep some of the original armor based on look alone, and craft it to be worth it's weight.

Can't wait!!!!!

Don't listen to people throwing around the guilt trip about the crafting skills and being OP'd. It only becomes that way with a melee character when you continue to improve your gear past Legendary.

As a matter of fact, you will find the Smithing and Enchanting to be quite useful. Especially at higher difficulties.

Just do what you need to improve your gear to Legendary and stop. That is... with weaponry. Armor isn't going to make much difference because it's capped, anyway.

Block is a great skill to perk out. Using a shield is one of the most fun I have had with a warrior type.

Unless you are just set on Speech, the perks are better spent elsewhere. Speech is really for just RPing purposes for characters that have extra perk points to spend.

I've said it countless times before, but once you go green, you'll never go back.

It has nothing to do with a guilt trip - he asked my opinion, I provided it. You need to stop riding my junk bud.

Yes, definitely doing both of those regardless! Also including speech, from a RP'ing perspective - a sellsword I feel should definitely be able to persuade or intimidate people, and his main goal is earning gold so that will help from merchants!

Can't wait to experience it!

What the Hell's the matter with you? I thought you had me blocked. I'd suggest you actually do that and don't be so flattered that I'm riding you.

svck it up and don't ever respond to any of my posts again.

To be fair, the only question I raised was whether to use maces or axes - since they have different rungs on the perk tree.

The speciality perks for 1H weapons are not worth the investment. Completely ignore them and focus on the center of the tree.

I think I mis-understood then as there wasn't a direct question in your post - you just kind of stated something as if you were looking for peoples opinions.

Also, as a quick note - there's seriously no reason to invest in the enchanting / smithing perks if you don't plan on using the skills to their fullest. You'd just be wasting perk points that you could maybe invest in your speechcraft tree? That's the reason I was saying choose some stuff distinctly so you don't waste perk points.

Sorry if I confused anyone.

It's sad but true. The Blade perks essentially end up being just 2.5 more points of damage for 3 perks. The Mace perks, ignore AR but enemies don't have an AR to speak really speak of. The extra bleeding from axes is the better of the three but still doesn't carry enough extra damage worthy of spending three perks on.

Thanks, I think I'll be OK though since I only have 6 major skills and not 7 or 8 like I usually have. And heavy armor doesn't have too many perks (I'm ignoring the left side).

You will be fine. The most you need in enchanting is 2 or 3 of 5 in Enchanter and run up the middle.

EDIT :

Are you going to DW or Block?

Block with a combo of axes or maces, depending on what kind of weapons I find at the time.

I ask because you can't block while wielding 2 weapons. It will also define where you will spend perks. Either for DW or Blocking.

I meant "combo" as in I won't only use maces or only use axes - I will vary it up. Ain't my first time through the mountains of Skyrim
