Orcs don't recognize an orc?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 5:21 am

So my orc battlemage discovered one of the orcish strongholds and I was all exited about meeting more rocs, but they wouldn't let me in!

The were all like 'Oh you are an outsider, our strongholds are only for Orcs!' even though I am an orc!

I mean the big tusks and green skin should give that away right? Are they all nearsighted or is that a bug?

There is a serious problem with NPCs not recognizing members of their own race in this game. None of the Dunmer in Windhelm recognize me as one of them, and on a former Nord character it drove me nuts that Galmar kept calling me "Unblooded".

Really? I thought I had heard that orcs were welcome in strongholds. :/

Well that just killed my interest to play my orc. I made him solely to work out of strongholds.

Bethesda trademark botching strikes again. ><

There is a way to gain entry to orc strongholds as a non orc.

The reason they do not recognize you is because you are a 'city orc' or an outsider. They don't see you as a true orc.

thats even worse than me talking to the khajiit caravans about how theyre not let inside the city, strolling into the city, than talking to a woman about how she feels about the khajiity caravans while NONE OF THEM ever notice that im a freakin cat. seriously, just throw in those "greetings, fellow [race]" dialogues and it would be fine, but they couldnt even do that. for some reason, only the guards have random dialogue, while everyone else spouts the same ONE line to you over and over, never changing, never considering the wealth of situations you could be talking to them under.

That's really odd, I swear I read somewhere that being an orc gives you instant access to the orcish strongholds. It's definitely a bug that needs to be fixed.

Well I don't know the reason for this but I tried with two different orc characters now and both were not recognized.

What may be the problem though is that my battlemage orc is a werewolf and my other orc a vampire. Maybe if you get afflicted with one of the curses the game won't recognize your race anymore?

I had instant access with my Orc...

I was a bit disappointed though. When I first found them I didn't know they even existed, so I got excited... they were hardly populated though and there didn't seem to be anything to do...

When I played as an Orc I was welcomed in a stronghold. It must be a bug.

I've not played Orc yet, and I've only met a couple in the game - I managed to trade with one but as soon as the dialogue over, Lydia brained him without provocation, which made me wonder if everyone hates them.

It might depend on race. I'm playing both a Bosmer and an Alter at the moment. The Bosmer seems to get recognized by at least some NCPs (both friendly and hostile) as a Wood Elf. Things are quite different with my Altmer though. So far not one person from the most racist Nord to the most supremacist Thalmor has recognized him as a High Elf. They all act like he is a human. It's quite disappointing, but I haven't been EVERYWHERE yet, so I might be missing something. I do agree that I miss the NCP greetings from Oblivion that recognized your character's race.

I think that bow trainer in Riverwood is the only wood elf to recognize me as being a wood elf, the dark elves in gray quarters and the one in the mage college didnt recognize my dark elf which disappointed me

I think THAT was worth to be mentioned.

Yea, is a little strange, as a Nord, I could just walk in to all but one Orc camp without doing anything and everyone was all friendly like, even paid off an Orc's dowry and got her as a companion :celebration:

The only Orc stronghold that didn't let me in attacked me on sight, no "we don't like you"

I gained acess to the Orc stronghold and mine south east of windhelm just fine on my Orc. He was a warrior with werewolf blood so being a wolf doesn't seem to affect it.Might just be certain strongholds.

Hrm, odd but I was at two different strongholds and neither acknowledged my orcs. Maybe the bug is more complex.

Very strange my orc was very welcomed when I walked into the strongholds. The first orc I walked by when I entered the stronghold said "youve been away from your kind too long, welcome home brother"
