Orcs or Dwarves

Post » Mon Aug 02, 2010 8:15 am

In your opinion are Orcs substituting for Dwarves? They have many aspects commonly given to Dwarves, such as their skill as armorers, their skill with axe, and their race's home in the mountains. Is it just me or do orcs seem alot more like Dwarves than the dwemer do?

Dwemers aren't Dwarves in any sense... they're as much Mer as the other Mer races.

So neither.

Exactly. The Dwemer in tes are not the typical "dwarf".

But then why are so many of their weapons, armor, and artifacts in morrowind and oblivion called dwarven?

Its just a racial slur. Dwemer are a short bearded elven race who were incredibly industrious. They were Dwe-"mer".

EDIT: No I don't think they are a substitute. However I often wonder what the hell Orcs are in the first place, I've heard a lot of theories but none are clear cut.

To me they've always seemed like a mix of a boar and a goblin.(Although I remember reading somewhere that they used to be normal elves)

Orcs are Mer as well.
Orsimer to be specific.

I'm not 100% but I'm sure the Orsimer changed apperances when Trinimac was "eaten" by Boethia.

Are there any images of what they used to look like?

Not that I know of, but they probably look similar to the Altmers, as many of the Mer races did once.

They were aldmers (the 'common ancestor' of the mer races), followers of Triminac, not a specific race of elves.

As the curent altmers didn't change much from their aldmer roots that we know of, they looked probably close to what the altmers looks like now.

... Wow... that sounds A LOT like the Tolkien lore. In the Silmarillion, elves were deceived and taken into captivity by Morgoth and his servants, then they were basically tortured and transformed by dark magic into hideous orcs.

How it happened is different in TES lore, but its interesting how the Orcs were once beautiful Elves and now they're a hideous beast race.

Yes indeed, I was merely using the name Altmer to describe how they probably looked.

I'd call being eaten and syphoned through his digestive tract Dark Magic. No chance of lighting a match in there...

"Good Daedra" doesn't equal THE Good. Mundus is too grey for stuff like that.

I find the "Dumalacath" variant more hilarious and offensive for some reason.

Same here.
For some reason I always tend to think of a swedish sentence which isn't really offencive but it just gives my head a not good cling to it.
"Dumma j?vla katt" which translates to "Stupid [censored] cat"... or am I just to tired to think straight?
