Orcs in Skyrim

Let's not forget their voices also. I thought their voice actors in Oblivion sounded way too friendly.

Part of looking intimidating is to sound intimidating as well.

I generally want more overall segregation between all the races in how they look and react to each other. In Oblivion nobody really cared what race the player or another NPC was. They all joined the same guilds, drank at the same bars, talked with each other in the streets and inter-racial romances were commonplace. Culturally one race wasn't very much different from another.

In Skyrim I wouldn't mind coming across, say, an entire village of nothing but orcs where unless you're an orc everyone treats you as an outcast. I want to step into an orc bar and hear "Get out of here, ash-skin! We don't serve your kind around here!" Trying to earn the orcs' trust would become a quest in and of itself.

I hope they're as little like Warcraft as possible. And by Warcraft, I of course mean thinly-veiled-Warhammer.

I hope they have less round heads, and look a bit more similar to elves. http://images.uesp.net/b/bd/Orsimer_official.jpg The longer, less round face from that concept art makes them look cooler than they actually were in the game imo. I don't really like the warhammer look.

Then again, nearly everyone in OB had round faces.

I want them to look not so ridiculously green. Unless when you slash one glowing green blood predator style falls out, they just look to cartoony in oblivion and morrowind, let them have a greenish tint to their skin.

For any of you that read the Eragon books, I think it would be fitting if they acted sort of like Urgals.

Bethesda has said that each race will look more unique. That said, here's what I want:

-I want Orcs to be taller than Imperials
-I want them to be massive (as in muscular).
-I want their faces to look fierce, not ugly

Bassically, I want them to be big, buff, scary, warrior/barbarians.

Orcs are typically something in fantasy settings that can look absolutely amazing. Badass, ruthless, awesome. I love Orcs.

But in Morrowind and Oblivion they look TERRIBLE. It's such a shame. I'd play Orcs much more frequently if they changed their looks up a bit. Orcs are one of the least popular races in all of TES and I think the fact that they look nothing like what most people hope Orcs look like plays a big role in that.

Buuuuut....orcs are supposed to be ugly.

Also, the most massive race of people would be nord and redguard males (50 str and 50 end in both games, enough to assume this trend will continue) as opposed to the orcs, who are 5 str less than those two (they'll still be massive, just slightly less than nord males). Female orcs, on the other hand, should be just as large as the males, and larger than redguard and nord women (redguard women have 40 str 50 end, while nord women have 50 str 40 end). Also, females should look more ugly or have a worse personality than their male counterparts (indicated in both games, as it was the female orc who had 25 Cha, while males had 30)

And again, no to warcraft and warhammer orcs. Wrong kind of orcs.

But really though, Orcs used to be monsters in the series. The Orcs in Morrowind and Oblivion are not believable monsters in appearance. (Then again, Ogres look pretty silly too.) I don't know. I've seen a lot of different takes on the appearances of Orcs, but I have to say I am not at all a fan of Oblivion's or Morrowind's. I really like Orcs and would like to see them get a nice improvement. With all of the race changes and the efforts put forth to making each race more unique in play style and appearance, I'd say we have a fairly good chance of seeing a more badass version of TES Orcs in Skyrim.

But their not monsters anymore though. They decided to take a chance and make Orcs something other than barbaric beasts, and make them actually civilized but cursed creatures.

Now I'm not too much of a fan of Orcs in Oblivion, or Morrowind, but I don't think the way to remedy that is to make them look too beastly. They're not suppsed to be monsters in TES no matter if old lore stated it.

Any material written during the events of Daggerfall and before about the orcs is 100% propaganda against them because they're ugly and perceived as being animals.

But we should also remember that the orsimer were aldmer that were transformed when Trinimac was pooped out. In essense, the orsimer are the children of a giant daedric turd.

How exactly are Warcraft orcs similar to Warhammer orcs? I don't know much about Warhammer, so I'm curious.

SilentColossus, back when Blizzard was young, they were going to make a Warhammer RTS. However, GW eventually pulled the plug, so Bliz did some slight modifications to slip under the copyright and release Warcraft.

That I know. But that was WCI-II. They started developing them in WCIII. What about after that, is what I'm asking. You're making them sound like they are Warhammer rip-offs, rather than were.

They haven't changed much, other than the armor and stuff in WoW and story stuff in WC3.

I just want both out of TES. They have their own IPs, which works for them. TES has its own orcs, who need some tweaking, not a [censored] huge overhaul and turn them into LotR orcs, or giant green creatures of rage with a really bad posture. The orcs in TES are elves. Elves turned into the likeness of the god they followed after he was pooped out by Boethia.

I don't want them in TES either. TES has its own orcs.

I love Orcs and would play as one if they were cooler than in OB. It felt ridiculous to be part of this "Dum" race and then everyone kept saying they've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me...

No [censored] WoW orcs. No Warhammer orcs either. http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/races_mw_orc.gif, the Morrowind concept art is what they should be like. They're not thee strongest race, but they're one of the strongest. However, they're the most durable race in the entire game, able to weather spells and weapons like no one's business, and when angered, they go completely ape [censored], becoming one of the most devastating fighters ever seen.

Keep them with the stats defining them to be a tank than a fighter. Nords are the balance fighters, redguards are the stabby stabby fighters, while orcs remain the more intelligent (well, females at least), rock hard, slow, unagile, not as strong as nords but still quite strong, and willpower rivaling a mage race.

Seconded. And maybe I'm alone with this sentiment: Orcs in general should be less burly than an average Nord males are. Slightly taller and a bit leaner but very hardy looking. They should have those Meric phenotypes noticeable enough while keeping the dramatic differences with other Mer intact. Facial scarification like of those particular African tribes would be nice too; remnants from the traditions of their tribal life. Proportionally longer legs (limbs) too, a physical trait that I feel should be shared with the Altmer. Being very durable doesn't necessarily equates to being very brawny. Fiercer look, slight resemblance with the common depictions of an Oni demon and possessing a voice with a very characteristic snarl. Olive green skintone, or perhaps with even more shades of yellow and darker. Longer nails.

For an average (well-built) Nord-Orc-Redguard comparison in body type, this is how I imagine them:

  • Nord> All around the beefiest of the bunch, moderate amount of fat (cold-resistant y'all). Athletic males possessing the build of a wrestler.
  • Orc> The most gangling of the three, and sometimes taller (but in no way as thin as the other Mer and much tougher). Minimal fat, well-toned muscles. Both males and females built like a long distance runner.
  • Redguard> Slightly shorter than the three. Minimal fat, very well-toned upper body for males, lithe build for the females. males built like a sprinter, females like a long distance runner.

I understand though that "Orcs = gangly" is not going to be popular.
