Orcs in Skyrim

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 2:58 am

Not a fan of the Dark Messiah orcs, they look too much like mindless monsters, it just doesn't fit the Orsimer culture and identity.

Look more business like and plausible IMO. It could work but I don't want 3m tall bright green WoW orcs or LOTR movie orcs for sure.

Funny how concept art doesn't translate sometimes. :)

For the race of Orc what are you guys hoping for/ expecting in terms of how they'll look and their lore.

I personally hope the lore for Orcs get a bit more developed and I really want them to look bad ass, not like in Oblivion.

i want they look less humans, with big voices, and i guess that they will look like this tim burton's guys: http://images.darkhorse.com/covers/300/p/potaattarstatue.jpg

acording to their armor

I always saw Orcs as short and brutish, not tall and menacing. Larger in mass than humans, but not as tall.

I would welcome a move toward Warcraft or Warhammer-style Orcs. Honestly, anything would be an improvement over how they looked in Oblivion.

But really though, Orcs used to be monsters in the series. The Orcs in Morrowind and Oblivion are not believable monsters in appearance. (Then again, Ogres look pretty silly too.) I don't know. I've seen a lot of different takes on the appearances of Orcs, but I have to say I am not at all a fan of Oblivion's or Morrowind's. I really like Orcs and would like to see them get a nice improvement. With all of the race changes and the efforts put forth to making each race more unique in play style and appearance, I'd say we have a fairly good chance of seeing a more badass version of TES Orcs in Skyrim.

There's an orc face, to the left of the armor.

From the blurry concept, they look a lot meaner... not like the butler Orcs of Oblivion.

i like that, i always thought that they should look more elven, just ugly and good at melee combat. In oblivion they looked like Neanderthals with squaty pig heads

The Morrowind concept is very light on detail... can't really picture how it would look in Skyrim's engine.

I kind of liked the face we've seen in the "Art of Skyrim" video (the screenshot of which is in this thread). Really reminded me of something I guess could be desribed as "honourable savage" or something. Sort of like Warcraft art meets movie Uruk-hai.

I'm not opposed to something more like http://elsinne.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/orc-female.jpg. Anyway, if they look less ridiculous, cartoony and more elven, I'll be happy.

Not at all, I would love that look. More elven, but have them still look discernibly Orcish.

That's ridiculous and cartoony. Orcs are supposed to be ugly, they're cursed. They looked fine in Oblivion, perhaps just a darker shade of green.

Okay, not a Tolkein orc, not a WoW orc, nor a Warhammer orc.

Uh.. What?
Orcs are the mer folk of the god who became a daedric prince's poop.

I 100% agree. That looks more like a green human than anything. You ask me, keep them ugly and barbaric looking, but not to the point of WoW or Warhammer, then they become ridiculous.

I should also mention that orcs, in general, are not the strongest race, even though a significant amount of the community seems to think so, or make it look like they are. They are weaker than nords (M&F) and male redguards, and have the same endurance as males nords and redguards (M&F). The female orcs are also have average intelligence (40) compared to all the other combat races, who have 30 intelligence. Where the orcs really shine is their willpower, which is as high as the magical races. However, they do have the lowest personality, they're slow, and they're not very agile. They're meat shields to physical and magical damage, but they're not quite the power hitters like the redguards and nords.

It's never explicitly stated that Boethiah literally ate Trinimac and pooped him out, that's just how the fable goes. The Lessons of Vivec talk about all sorts of crazy [censored] as well, but that's never really believed as being the actual truth either.

EDIT: I mean it's never explicitly stated by anything official besides "The True Nature of Orcs."

While looking more beast like is a plus, they cant really look too grotesque. You are supposed to be able to relate to them.

Yes. I really like the MW concept art, as can be seen in my avatar. It's by Michael Kirkbride, isn't it?

And where did the 'code of honour' klingons-but-not-that-I-swear idea of orcs come from? I know it's the warcraft way, but I've never really seen it in TES? TES orcs are cunning and value craftsmanship and defense over berserker strength.
