Orcs in Skyrim

For the race of Orc what are you guys hoping for/ expecting in terms of how they'll look and their lore.

I personally hope the lore for Orcs get a bit more developed and I really want them to look bad ass, not like in Oblivion.

We're close enough to Orsinium that there could be some really great opportunities for lore development.

I'm hoping for a better look as well, something more like http://mythicmktg.fileburst.net/war/us/home/images/art/WAR_Hammer_v_Black-Orc.jpg

I don't know if you have seen, but in one of the G.I videos there was one piece of concept art of an Orc in Orcish Armor.

Edit2: 'FearlessHero' has a much better link 2 or 3 posts down.

Orcs are typically something in fantasy settings that can look absolutely amazing. Badass, ruthless, awesome. I love Orcs.

But in Morrowind and Oblivion they look TERRIBLE. It's such a shame. I'd play Orcs much more frequently if they changed their looks up a bit. Orcs are one of the least popular races in all of TES and I think the fact that they look nothing like what most people hope Orcs look like plays a big role in that.

After seeing some of Skyrim's concept art and screenshots, I have very high hopes for the orcs getting a more brutal, bestial re-design. If they're closer to http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy297/b_harrison/misc/orcs.jpg in appearance, I won't complain.

I think this would be more likely than my link, only because having cursed mer probably wouldn't change them into something about the size of a TES Troll.

There is a lore reason why they are ugly. But ugly doesn't mean they can't look bad ass http://Shade-of-Nekura.deviantart.com/art/orc-162867943?q=boost%3Apopular%20Orc&qo=82

Orcs should be of taller stature and significantly more muscular than the other races. For facial features, personally I would much prefer a "warcraft" style of nose as opposed to a decidedly (and traditional) porcine nose. If I have to look like a walking green pig, I probably won't play one - and be extremely disappointed.

They should also have significant bonuses to axes or two handed weapons. I really liked the look of the concept art for the Orc Armor in thehttp://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/26/the-art-of-skyrim.aspx feature on Game Informer, so I think we're good there.

http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/community/fanart/index.html#1182 would be a good idea of how I would make my orc. I'd probably go with a more grey colored skin instead of green-green, and I would tattoo the eff out of him, but you get the idea. Also, a huge axe or maul.

As long as they look nothing like the Orcs in Oblivion, I'll be happy. I'm hoping their lore will be fleshed out as well, especially since they played a large part in helping the Nords attack Morrowind.

Yep. Last time I checked when Azura cursed them and turned them from Chimer into Dunmer she did so by turning their skin the color of ash. (red mountain) Grey. Not blue.

Agreed, to be honest I hope all of the races are improved drastically - they looked much to cartoony in Oblivion for my liking.

Yeah, I always liked how Blizzard portrayed their orcs. If you think about it, TES orcs and Warcraft orcs are rather similar in terms of culture, in that they are not savage beasts but warriors following a code of honour, they look barbaric but are actually civilized once you look past first impressions.

At any rate, I like that picture. I don't think Bethesda should blatantly steal the look of the Warcraft orcs though, some identity is necessary, but I definately think the orcs from the Warcraft universe are good as guidelines.
I hate them.

How very constructive.

I hope they're as little like Warcraft as possible. And by Warcraft, I of course mean thinly-veiled-Warhammer.

I think orcs need to have a better looking aesthetic. If this means retconning to change their stupid upturned noses, so be it.

Basically:

TV-ugly, not ... ugly-ugly.

Is what they should be going for.

A lot of these pictures looks like orcs from warhammer, warcraft, Lotr etc. I want the orcs i TES to be different and unique. They should look like http://images.uesp.net//b/bd/Orsimer_official.jpg, they didn't in Oblivion.

I started a thread like this a while back. I don't need them to look like Warhammer or WoW (although I think Warhammer has some of the best artwork I've every seen). I just don't want Orcs to look like goofs. If I had to pick the closest existing reference I'd pick http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2006/09/Dark_Messiah_Preview/30.jpg [updated].

Not a fan of the Dark Messiah orcs, they look too much like mindless monsters, it just doesn't fit the Orsimer culture and identity.
