Orcs ?

Post » Sun Apr 25, 2010 7:15 am

Orcs seemed to be for comic relief in OB. I don't mind levity but the bright green skin, pig noses, purple lips gotta go. I'd prefer a more menacing take on the cursed ones.

Lord of the Rings would have been nice to fight and hunt down. Each verison has their own verison of Ork,orcs or elves.

I think the Orcs in Oblivion were fine. I don't want them to be or look like savage monsters. And Oblivion's art style is probably to blame for their hypergreen skin.

Putting some more of the Uruk-Hai spirit in them wouldn't hurt.

the orcs appearance is fine, but they should have angrier facial expressions and louder angrier voices

edit: orcs appearance is fine, they should have angrier facial expressions, louder angrier voices, paler skin, no eyebrows, and are considered beast npcs with their own walking animation

I think it's the tusks that do it for me. So cute and razor sharp...

I don't think all Orcs are brutes all the time. They could be one of the more aggressive races as far as having more angry NPCs per capita, but there is some civility in the Pariah Folk.

Unless there was some sort perceived of injustice, how do you explain them being hostile all the time?

To me Orcs sounded like Nords, had the same countenance (maybe a tad more unreasonably hostile) as Nords... hell they were Nords with green skin and horns. A lot of the races need to be re-worked if you ask me...

I was not saying they were cuddly I just think there overall design is fine: but not all of them need to be brutes yes in most cases their nature is gruff in nature I guess that however should not make them all hostile.

I just want their skin to be more sallow.

Brown and dark skin and no more bright greens. Ok maybe a little, just so my character can be his own glow in the dark orc.

Right. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Lord_Rugdumph_gro-Shurgak is excellent proof. I'd rather laugh myself to death than panic with these guys. Being ugly and silly is pointless, but looking ugly while being scary would actually have a purpose. If they'd actually look fierce and able to go berserk as they're supposed to be, I'd play as an Orc more often. A more impressive appearance shouldn't implicate immanent hostility.

The biggest issue I had with Orcs was their voice. This is the great flaw that was the limited number of voice acting in the game. Nords and Orcs were the same. Imperials and Bretons were the same. All elves were the same. And Argonians and Khajiit were the same. I don't mind their appearance (though improvement is most definitely welcome for all races visually and otherwise) as much as I mind that. Voices need serious, SERIOUS work for Skyrim.

agreed, the voices need serious work i would like two different voices for each gender. for the orcs? less green or ill be blind...

100% agree. All beast races looked funny. The Argonians looked the best of the 3.

Orcs should be less green and not have such FAT FACES. Jesus, make them look cool, not ugly. I know theyre not supposed to be "evil" like in cliche fantasy, but they dont have to be so ugly.

The two voice actors didnt help. They needed to sound a bit cooler.

This is stolen from the MERP mod, but the Orc facial proportions for these uruk-hai look FAR SUPERIOR to the original orc face proportions. http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/13/12445/thumb_620x2000/ScreenHunter_02_Nov._17_18.53.jpg

I doth concureth most wholeheartedly...eth.

But on a less ridiculous note I think that Oblivion suffered from voice actors who were too famous (pronounced expensive). I think a good number of less-than-famous voice actors and a couple of "hey it's that guy" appearances would do the game a lot of good.

Edit because I cannot spell.

Compared to http://features.cgsociety.org/newgallerycrits/g38/322338/322338_1282146317_large.jpg yes they are cuddly! ;)

But seriously, I like to see some Orcs like the following, and just like different people we see in R/L, we can see different Orcs as well: http://d2d04grx5ahzvh.cloudfront.net/000_WebRoundups/26_Monsters/18.jpg http://www.ambientart.de/3d/gallery/characters/Dark%20Wizard.jpg http://www.3dtotal.com/admin2/front_page/gallery/big/2472.jpg http://www.3dtotal.com/admin2/front_page/gallery/big/rump.jpg

Orcs should have more of a voice like the Nightkin in FO:NV, and not be so darn........comical looking.

Definitely agree that there needs to be more variety in the voices. I don't want my Cats and Lizards sounding the same, or my Nordic people and my big-massive-berserking- beast race- Orc. :verymad:
