Order of completion ( New gamer )

Post » Fri Aug 02, 2013 3:24 pm

hi i have never played any elder scrolls games and recently purchased oblivion and skyrim as i have found recent games this year to be poor so thought i would try a few top rated games that i missed out on playing.

the question i have is that i like to get the most out of every game and i like to follow things in the best order to complete the game fully and get the most out of the game.

i hate missing out on things in games when you cant go back and you have to restart to get them.

does anyone have a walkthrough with perfect order of completion or something similar ?

i know some people will say to play it through and discover things for myself but i like something to follow its always been the way i play games so any advice would be great.

thanks

It's an open world. There's no specific order to anything. Each quest line has its own progression, but typically isn't dependent on other quest lines.

Although you said you don't want people to say this, I'm going to say it... You NEED to discover things for yourself or else you're not going to get the maximum feel for the game. If I watch a quest walkthrough on youtube for example, I'm going to know what's coming thus not enjoying it as much.

Trust me, TES are great for exploring and discovering things for yourself, you won't regret it.

Generally speaking, there are no conflicts between quests, so it's possible to do all with one character. Within quest lines, there are certain branching choices to be made, so that you follow one path, excluding the other. The Shivering Isles expansion is an example of that, where you must choose between two paths to the same ultimate conclusion.

Be warned that unlike other games, Oblivion tends to get harder as you level up. The biggest obstacle to a do-everything character will likely be the character-development itself. You particularly need to apply effort to your actual fighting skills, and avoid "empty" leveling of skills that don't strengthen your character.

Can't you tell the OP has been only trying linear games so far?

taylor402, I'm curious what other games you've played that you've found not so satisfactory.

higher levels are more difficult yes, but they are also more rewarding. like at lower levels, if you are rewarded a sword that does 5 pts of fire damage, at higher levels that same sword will do 15 pts of fire damage. also, you can't miss anything but as mentioned quests branch out from decisions made...never gets old!

Current character has logged just over 270 hours and has completed (seems like), nothing. Not the main quest, no guild quest lines, not even any of the quest mods I'm using. Oh wait, I did complete Hoarfrost Castle quest. Mainly I, Manveru HoK, have just been traveling around with my two companions hunting vampires and closing gates when we happen to stumble upon them.

I did complete the main quest once long ago. I may never do so again, who knows?

Be warned though that there are a couple quests that your actions will have dire consequences later in the game that may or may not depending on your point of view, prevent or block you from quest avenues that you may have an interest in.
