Ordinator Costume (WiP)

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:41 am

Okay, so the past few weeks or so, I've been attempting to create a full set of Indoril armor for, y'know, cosplay and stuff.

I originally started out just sculpting the https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/533353_384116648276518_100000345581677_1254627_7977660_n.jpg (and https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/383527_384116728276510_100000345581677_1254629_2095927387_n.jpg and https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/521966_384116698276513_100000345581677_1254628_966355218_n.jpg). I poked around on the interwebs a bit and found some techniques for making decent-looking costume armor out of those EVA foam anti-fatigue mats, so I decided to try a full costume.

I've never done anything like this before, so I know it's not perfect, and I didn't follow the textures from Morrowind exactly since most of it is just the same texture, and I didn't want to make a dozen pieces with the same exact design on it. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this thing, paint it up real purty, and go scare some kids with it or something. Anyway, here's what I have so far:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/549208_393919707296212_100000345581677_1280740_378155932_n.jpg Some of them I've only just cut out so don't have any detail. I also made the chainmaille hauberk a few months back, but figured it would be close enough to use for this.

Also, anyone have any suggestions for the boots? I'm kind of having a hard time figure out what's going on down there. It looks like they're sandals with something wrapped around the calf, but I can't really tell if it's supposed to be fabric or some kind of solid material.

That's awesome, the helmet looks ace. Once it's finished you should show this to Gstaff, they often feature stuff like this.

Thanks guys!

I've made a lot of progress on the cuirass lately and will try to get some update pics soon.

The weather around here has also been getting nicer, so I'll be able to resin the helmet, too. (Have to do it outside. Fiberglass resin is nasty stuff.)

I wish I could make costumes like that.

EDIT: I imagine you'd just end up walking around in it harassing strangers and calling them scum. Presumably with one of your friends in an Imperial Guard costume.

Hehe...that's half the fun of cosplaying an Ordinator. Though, if I had friends, I probably wouldn't be spending all of my time making armor. And these next images would have been much easier to take:

The final assembly will have straps and possibly some "rivets" in a few places. The lames at the bottom weren't cooperating. They were being....lame.

Nice swords in the background, lol. I think I recognize the pair at the top, what's the one at the bottom?

That's Aragorn's knife. I also have Anduril hanging immediately to their right, and a bunch of non-LotR weapons all over my room. I collect all kinds of geeky things. ;)

I've got a 4 1/2 foot Zangetsu(picture Pyramid Head's Great Knife) replica from Bleach, and a 6' Bankai(pretty much a giant katana) replica from Bleach as well. I've also got the machete from the movie Machete and a replica of Sweeney Todd's straight razor. Geeky stuff FTW!
