13 Ore Types

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 11:19 pm

If you've read the recent info, there are 13 kinds of ore to craft with. What I would like to know is what these ores are. However, since that's all the official info we have, it's up to us to speculate!

Some possible ore types from real world or previous ES games:
Iron
Copper
Tin
Mythril
Ebony
Glass
Stahlrim
Adamantium

Other possible crafting materials that aren't specifically ores but may have been counted as such:
Leather
Fur
Bone
Dragonskin/Dragonscale

Also, crafting could combine or treat these ores to form new materials such as:
Bronze
Steel
Daedric

What do you guys think? Would you like to see these or other ores in the game? What do you think will make it? Discuss!

EDIT: Added adamantium to the list.

Hearing about the number seemed like a lot at first. But then again, you figure in every armor and weapon type, sounds about right. Your list seems pretty good though.

i think we might be able to combine ores to make unique and better materials to forge. so 13 could end up really being many more. just food for thought

iron, steel, mithril, silver, adamant, ebony, glass.
Other than that I have no idea. I dont think daedric, as that is "raw ebony which has been refined using the craft and magical substances of the lesser minions of Oblivion." It would be cool though, if it required high enchant skill, a high level trapped soul and had a possibility of seriously going wrong.

It's possible it could turn into a much more extensive crafting system then I first thought.

I can't wait to see how it's implemented, and what we can make. I mean, it has to be worth gathering up the required materials... If I can get an armor drop off an enemy, I wonder what the difference will be between a drop and something I craft?

Hmmm... Does crafting encompass armor as well? Because leather isn't an ore..

I hope that each ore has their own advantage to use, not just this ore is better than this ore. This would reduce the chances that everyone at the last levels craft with the same ore, and would open up the possibilities of crafting.

Hopefully obsidian is one. Although it's basically glass, I just like obsidian better.

I'd like to see Bonemold make a return. The rest of the varieties sound spot on though. Silver?

When you look up the definition of "ore," you'll quickly come to the conclusion that it doesnt include leather, fur or bones

Deadric should have it's own questline to make, as it is likely the most powerful "heavy" armor in the game.

We've got to have Dragonbone/Dragonskin. I know I would wear that type of armor.

Ah, but when you kill it it burns up while absorbing it's soul leaving a pile of bones so... Dragonskin, Dragonscales, and Dragon Meat are effectively unavailable as a result.

Its interesting that daedric is made through a process rather than from a unique ore. It leaves open the possibility of infusing that same daedric essence into another material instead, such as stalhrim. If nothing else it might be interesting to see a unique weapon produced that way, even if its just a one-off.

If stalhrim isn't one of the 'ores', I'll be a sad panda.
