I'm just wondering if Origin is mandatory. I'd rather have a physical disc for Crysis 3, but if I need to install Origin then it's pretty pointless, and I might as well get the Overkill pack instead. So the question is: if I buy the physical copy, do I still need Origin?

No you only need origin if you buy the digital version on the website.
