Origin of the Mages Guild..?

Post » Wed Sep 22, 2010 5:14 am

I remember using Origin of the Mages Guild when I started getting into Oblivion mods in 2007 or so, and I remember loving this mod. However it seems to have disappeared from the major hosts. I found v6.1 from some googling magic, but what happened with it? Was it just abandoned or what? Is 6.1 the latest version?

Just curious!

My apologies if it is. Again, I haven't been around here in quite some time and I'm sure I missed a lot of things.

Google up "engineering guild" and you'll find it. You're on your own from there though.

Not exactly on your own.
The rumors abot the guys there being 'bad' and unhospitable are only rumors.
If you register, they will help you to find and download latest versions of the mods hosted there and the files fequired for the mods to work.

No, I know from personal experience that it is completely true, if you state even the tiniest fact that could be considered (constructive) criticism. But that should not be discussed here. You're on your own as far as this community is concerned when it comes to Engineering Guild mods.

Well right now all the files are available without registering - so I just updated all my versions and got a few new ones.

Very inconsistent set of requirements there.

Also noticed there's some terrible advice about compatibility and bash patches and such. So if you happen to get curious and read the two recent blog entries, just keep in mind that it's talking about a 2-3 year old incident where Gecko mangled some file or something. The current iterations of Gecko, Tes4Edit, and Wrye Bash are perfectly safe to use as long as you stay sensible about it. I'm sure we can all agree that Bash has allowed the game to do plenty of otherwise impossible things.

We can agree to that definitely, Arthmoor.

However I can also agree that the rumors that claim the people there bad and inhospitable are nothing but rumors.

I generally find their community very supportive, and lacking in trolls.

Currently the downloads are free of register.

Yeah...looking at his website it's the same situation. He certainly hasn't changed a bit :( Sad really as I liked his mods, but refuse to use any of them as a result of his poor attitude and bad advice for mod users.

Just read that piece of propaganda and it's still the same old song. If it wasn't so missleading to inexperienced users that take his advice serious it would almost be funny.

I use nearly all of "He who must not be named" mods and love them. He is starting to interconnect his large mods and is adding a lot of content.
Origin of the Mages Guild is at version 7.2 and is now integrated with the main oblivion quest as well as with the Mages guild questline.
The falling out with this community is unfortunate but not everyone plays nice.

Oh, for the love of Jeebus. :stare: You all know better- keep personal remarks out of your comments when discussing specific mods - that goes for pro and con with regards to a mod or modder.

As the OP got http://www.theengineeringguild.co.uk/ and can follow up from there, I will lock this thread before I get even crankier.
