Origin of your profile name

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:59 am

I thought this would be a cool little topic to start. It's just as the title states, what was the reasoning behind your profile name. What made you choose the name you chose. As for mine, it hearkens back to my original gamertag I created when the 360 first launched. At the time I thought it sounded cool because of my 15 year old mindset thinking "how can anything not be cool with the word hell in it, you know what, I should put 1's instead of L's in the word hell, then it will be even cooler". Nowaday's I look at the name and it just seems really idiotic to me. Wish I could change it. So what about you guys. Any history behind the names?

Mine is just the nickname I was given when I joined the Baseball team I play for in the UK. My surname is a type of nut and there's a brand of nuts called KP. One guy started out calling me KP and it stuck. I added the nuts to it though and it's easy enough to remember.

Septiego's a character from King's Field IV, one of my all-time favorite games. If I could, I'd probably change it to NumberoftheJon, the name I use for PSN and Steam, among other things. Story behind that one: I was creating an account for something I didn't care about, needed a name, had tried several of the usuals -- all taken, was listening to Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast, exchanged 'beast' with my name, voilà.

For me, it's my real name. I be almost 99.9% of people think it's a fake name. I find it funny I can use my real name and be me, and not hide behind a fake name. :)

Eh, the long:

I was at a staff training for wilderness trip leaders and was in an introduction circle. The classic name, where you're from, something we should know about you. This place's mission is to take intergrated groups of all physical, mental, and experience levels to the woods, so there were many heavy/deep/philosphical replies before it came to me. I was about the 20th and ahalf hour into it with another 10 to go after me. After being bored, figured I'd add some levity and truth:

"Hi, my name's Bill. I'm from Wisconsion and have always loved the outdoors. One thing that you should know? Trail food gives me gas"

There was much laughter, and the legend was born...

That's the truth, and I'm sticking to it!

One day I thought of Shifty. It was good, so I got my name. When I grow up, I wish to become a Dj lol.

I simply knew that....Yasgur.

Aquan comes from a character I had started in Morrowind before I registered with the forums. I had set out on a role playing quest to swim around the entire island, and explore all of the grottoes and shipwrecks. I used a spear most of the time to fight Slaughterfish and Druegh, and hunted pearls. This is still a playing mode that I do very often. Morrowind's aquatic world is fascinating to me.
When I registered, it was a no-brainer.

Do you really need me to explain mine?

Okay, I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd, especially while Syd Barrett was still with them. I'm also a big fan of his solo work, which really shows just how mentally unstable he was by then.

Awesome name if I say so myself.

My name is a term I more or less coined for myself in high school. Was taking german, in sports, and the second term was a nickname.

Well, I was an idiot. I couldn't think of anything other then Fallout: New Vegas and why not make my name the most mysterious casino of them all? I kind of wish I could change it to make it look more like I'm not some New Vegas addict, but whatever.

Mainly because of this, from several years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twsOmIdvKdg

And I know it's spelled wrong. But I first used the name when I created my Xbox Live Gamertag, and the correct spelling was either taken, or they thought "turd" was a bad word?

Still, use it for many a website username, obviously.

It's what I use on the Obs forums and I figured I'd be consistent over here.
And originally, back then when I picked it, the name I actually wanted was taken. So were my alternates. Eventually I just used a random color. That's how I do everything on the internet since it exploded and all I ever see is this:

"Name is already in use."
"Name is already in use."
"Name is already in use."
"Name is already in use."
"Name is already in use."
"Name is already in use."

I was playing Warcraft 3 at the time. Big surprise huh?

Though nowadays most people probably associate it with WoW and all the horrible things that Blizzard did to my childhood heroes :violin:

I hope some of you know the movie of which mine is from! :P

So if anyone has ever seen Black Hawk Down, one of the characters last name is Twombly. And in one part when Twombly and Nelson are left alone, Nelson calls him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZo-HlVNR6k. I just replaced the "s" with a "z" because I like the letter "z". :P So I just basically started using this for my username and character names in games and online stuff.

I stole it from a guy I had on my MSN list in 2002 in high school. :P

I started modding with this nickname and now I pretty much can't change it,

The Short Story: Verlox is the destroyer of fluffy things, and the drinker of sweetened cough syrup.

The Long Story: When we were little, me and my friends had our own little world where we were deities and heroes. Think the G version of Heroic Greece. I was Verlox. That name has now stuck with me for a really long, long time.
