Original Crysis

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 5:54 am

Sorry to post here, but original Crysis forums are pretty dead and I figured most of the people here have probably played the original. Just having some issues with fps and was hoping for an answer. My specs are

AMD Phenom II X4 840T Processor 2.9ghz
8gb DDR 3 1333 mhz ram
Nvidia GTX 460
Win 7 64 bit

Now my issue is, no matter what settings i never get more than 24 fps. Example, if I play on lowest settings in 1024x768 I get 24fps. If I play on max settings 1920x1080 I get 24 fps.... If I turn on anti aliasing no matter what setting its on it drops to about 20 and if I turn it to full 16 it is completely unplayable. Any ideas what the hell that is? Its Crysis Warhead btw and I have applied both patches

Check your monitor frequency and see what it is. Make sure it is at 60 Hz. Also turn off Vsync or it might be called vertical sync. The GPU is certainly more capable than 24 FPS. If neither of those help then go to Nvidia's website and make sure you have the latest version of the drivers installed.

You don't need to turn AA on in Crysis or Warhead. Apparently it's already applied to some extent. All you're doing by turning on AA is dropping your framerate.

Also, if you get C.U.D.A.A.T.S CCC Mod, you can increase your visuals while also boosting your framerate. It's win win!

I don't have AA on just to clarify I was just noting that no matter what if I do turn it on frames drop. I tweaked it a bit yesterday and turned on triple buffering via my video card control panel and it definately helped with fps for AA I can do 16 now and doesn't change but still maxes at 24fps, kind of odd

Have you tried forcing it to run using DX9? its probably set to 10 by default on your rig.... Crysis DX10 has caused issues for some people even with good rigs...

Yes, DX9 doesn't include the 'Enthusiast' options (Very high in Crysis 1).

I don't see why you get lag, I can run it with 8Q AA on a GTX 260 card and the same processor / RAM spec as the OP. With DX 10 and the Very high options all selected. Are you running any antivirus programs? Try manually process killing EVERYTHING that is not necessary for running Crysis, I do that every time I launch it :P .

Good luck, but honestly, I can't see why you'd be getting lag.

What is confusing to me is that I get the same FPS no matter what setting it's on. Seriously, 24fps in 1024x768 at minimal? I'm trying to play Warhead if that makes a difference. I heard the graphical engine is a bit different. I'm getting 40fps or more maxed in Crysis 2 while running things in the background... I do have most up to date drivers for everything. I'm running 64 bit client and tried 32 doesn't make a difference.

Ok tried something new, windowed mode. I am hitting 35-40 fps in windowed mode same settings but constant 24 in full screen. Windowed mode even with higher framerates doesn't run as smoothly, wtf?

Just figured out my entire issue is my tv. If I uncheck vertical sync my frames go up quite a bit. It's because my tv doesn't refresh fast enough vertically to go past 24 fps. Because of the low refresh rates it tears without vertical sync and with it my fps is capped. Just figured i'd post my findings incase someone else has this issue.
