Electroraptor, are you playing under the same profile that the save was originally created?

... I'm heading to EB Games to fight to return my copy as defective. I'd like to spend some of my leisure time this weekend enjoying a game. I've read excellent reviews on Demons Souls. Thinking it'll be a pretty good Action RPG.

Well I'm happy to say the EB games was aware that people were having this issue. After quickly explaining that I wanted to return it as defective, and explaining that my Canadian Collectors Edition of Fallout 3 came with the US version of the disc causing the game saves to not be compatible, they took it back as defective without argument. I've been playing Demons Souls for the last 15 minutes and I'm digging it so far.

Edit: I figured I should add... my EB didn't have any copies of Demons Souls left, but allowed me to prepay for it with the money spent on Fallout 3 GOTY. They said they should get more copies in on Monday. A buddy of mine had bought it and lent it to me till Monday as he's working all weekend.

Just return your game as defective. It is. The key is to be calm and composed when explaining your issue to the store clerk.

It's funny... I'm sure if this happened in the states there'd be talks of class action lawsuits by now. I'm not condoning that course of action... Although I am happy that I've got my money back in the form of another game. Pissing off the most loyal of your customers during a recession is never a wise business move.

There's always talk about that. There was quite a bunch when the game first came out and it was freezing and glitching and people being unable to finish the main quest. It's still like that, but I think most people have pretty much come to accept it from gamesas. Now if any actual legal action was taken, that's a different story.

At any rate, I'm sure gamesas lost some customers because of this game and other random things.

Can they actually fix this with a patch? Or are they going to have to recall and re-release? Has there been an official statement released yet anywhere as well?

It might be possible, but I don't really trust gamesas with patches.

The solution to the problem is already out there. The end result, as stated by the pinned topic, is that those with the 30185 original Fallout 3 game need the US GOTY. The issue is how will gamesas get those versions to people that live in Canada? Are they going to have people mail it to them for a replacement? Or will they just send out a new batch to retailers?

I don't get why they didn't just send out the US GOTY to the same places in Canada that got the 30185 a year ago. Maybe there's a shortage or something.

Good idea here - I'm going to return it as defective, but I'm afraid the store (Futureshop) won't take it back considering it's opened...and the customer service reps are usually totally clueless and just won't understand this issue we have here...

There's a second thread regarding this... I've posted my testing/attempts to fix this over there:

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1047541&st=0&gopid=15196785&#entry15196785

Let's try to merge this thread. :)

Agree I got it at Future Shop as well and I tried. No way I could do it and I tried 2 stores, I was pretty much laughed at. I talked to the guys on the floor, customer service and the store manager.

All I can hope is Bethesda comes in and does something THIS WEEK about this. At least confirms something is in progress and we have nothing to worry about.

I would like to hope that Bethesda is going to have some sort of solution in the next few days (although it is just MY hope). I'm going to try to be patient before rushing it back to EB. They usually don't have issue as long as your good with store credit. I just plain avoid any game purchases at FutureShop... real bad customer service. The sad part for me in this whole mess is the disappointment. I traded my original after I heard about GOTY AND after I read Bethesda's confirmation that game saves were going to work. I suppose it's trade/ return, forget the 100's of hours cultivating a damn good character or paper weight until or if they ever fix the issue... oh boy! What the heck... Borderlands comes out on Tuesday... who knows. :banghead:

Every canadian that bought the collector's edition got the US version while the others got the CA version.
As far as I know, since all the GOTY versions sold in canada are CA version and that the US and CA versions are not compatible, collector's edition buyers are screwed.
Especially frustrating since collector's edition buyers are usually fans of the franchise ... like me :(

I am waiting for a reply from the support team to see if a replacement for the US version is possible.

The saves do work. It's just that gamesas or whoever shipped out the games made a huge blunder in supplying the game to Canada.

As long as the game is not opened, Futureshop will take it for a refund. Before your receipt expires be sure to buy elsewhere. I will be buying another GOTY from Futureshop in 3 weeks....get my drift? The reason for this is I paid full retail price for this game...$69.99 + tax = $80 (for me atleast). Full retail price for a year old game and it doesn't deliver what Bethesda promised what it's supposed to do.

Until we hear from Bethesda regarding a fix or whatever, this is what I'll be doing.

A big [censored] to us Canadians, eh?.

I spent the extra cash for the original collector's edition, that contained a US version??? BLUS 30185. Now I have to import a game from the US for my old saves to work. Bite me & [CENSOR THIS] Bethesda. No more money.

Gstaff post Oct 16 2009, 01:29 PM Post #1

For your game saves from Fallout 3 to work with Fallout 3 GOTY, make sure your versions match up. If they don't match up (US disc to US disc, UK disc to UK disc, etc) you're going to run into compatibility issues.

English US
Fallout 3: BLUS-30185
Fallout 3 GOTY: BLUS-30451

This info is ironically helpful and totally useless at the same time. Hey Gstaff, so where can we buy a US version in Canada? Oh yeah, it's the weekend, so everyone's off and NOT WORKING ON THIS. It would have been solved by now if it was an issue with the US customers. You can bet your 'almost at par' dollar on that.

As much as I wanted to run out and drop the cash the first day of release, I'm glad I waited.... for just this reason. Huge disappointment Bethesda, HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! I just won't be buying it because Bethesda just doesn't care after they get your money. The proper thing to do BETHESDA is inform ALL your Canadian retailers there is a problem (eg Futureshop) and tell them to accept ALL RETURNS of this product OPENED or NOT. It's not the customers fault it doesn't work, and the blame the victim defense is inexcusable.

Loved the game, hate the way Bethesda treats their customers/fans.
To everyone who posted here about the problem, thank you for sharing your painful disappointment. I hope it gets resolved quickly so you can continue on past Level 20.
