Orw in skyrim vs real ore...

It says in the first paragraph that Malachite has nothing to do Malachite Green, its just called that because of similar color. Also, considering that malachite in real life is used to make jewelry it is highly unlikely that touching the stone will harm someone, especially when you can buy them polished or not.

EdIt: I stand corrected, the dust is apparently very toxic. Apologies lol
ye
ah the polished or tumbled kind is ok still long term exposure isnt good either. had a few nasty pussing rashes that will testify lol.
i was more worried about somebody making a set of armor with real malachite, i mean some fans have made armor. just wanted to put it out there, would be bad if elder scrolls got that publicity.

though as for the gemstones and the armors maby the elves found a way to smith gemstones.
the moonstone looks like white quartzite to me.
ill upload and post a link of it.
nevermind glossy stone with flash on camera makes it look like a white rock....

Sources for my find:

http://www.controverscial.com/Malachite.htm

Its only toxic if breathed in, which makes sense. Breathing in mineral dust is usually a bad idea haha

The malachite armor in the game has a moonstone base, the glass doesnt actually touch the player.

i didnt want to link any pagan things, though my citation for it being toxic over long term exposure is from books and personal experience. cant really cite the book as it is lent to someone though it was crystal prescriptions by judy hall. roughly a third of the way through. more of the stress was on the water based drink having had malachite in it.

but we dont have moonstone... why i worried lol

For dwemer material probably the most similar could be the alluminium bronze alloy

In unusably low quantities, aluminium is only 9% of the weight of moonstone. No one in their right mind would try to refine aluminium from moonstone. The ore bauxite that aluminium is refined from in the real world has an aluminium content of approximately 34% of weight. And even then the refinement of the aluminium requires modern techniques such as electrolysis to get pure aluminium.

What I'm trying to convey is that trying to make any anologues between the materials in TES and real world materials is a fools errand. Yes you can make a few, tenuous links but you will be forced to ignore just as many if not more for their complete difference from their real world counterparts, ebony is a type of wood, quicksilver (mercury) is liquid at temperatures above -38.9o C, malachite is an ore of copper, corundum is a mineral that rubies and sapphires are formed of, orichalcum is a mythical metal mentioned in Plato's dialogues which is described as a golden bronze.

We don't know what moonstone in TES is except that its observed properties don't match its real world namesake or what elven armor is really made of. If you asked me what elven armor was made of in Oblivion I would have responded that it was probably made from mithril but of superior craftsmanship compared to the common imperial mithril armor.

Face it, Bethesda decided to just use the names of real world materials that share a superficial property with their in-game counterpart or their name is thematically linked to standard fantasy tropes (elves are associated with the moon => their armor is moonstone) or even just some wordplay (orc => orichalcum).

What I do not like of the bethesda is to have merged fashion culture and materials so a sword can either be of per race or per material wich makes no sense ot me , it would make sense to have a iron sword in elven style or a steel elven sword , but dont make sense to have all elven stuff of same material and have this material called elven ?
