I'm running through Sideways Cave, and I'm stuck.

I've run into this room with two gargoyles. I shoot an arrow at one of them (using Duke Patrick's Combat Archery), get 3x damage for sneak attack, and it doesn't even dent it! I tried a silver arrow, same deal. Then it comes over and slaughters me.

Any tips for dealing with gargoyles? There must be some weakness I'm missing. I'd get them slaughtered by a trap but there don't seem to be any in this dungeon.

Those particular ones are easy as the PC can stay on one end of the tunnel leading to the room and take them out when they stay on the other end - as they can't get through the tunnel. I often take them out with the beginning flare spell and a couple of heal spells - as I tend to do Sideways Cave on Lvl 1. Takes a while, though. But Gargoyles are tough if facing them. They are somewhat weak to magic and weak to frost so that's the most efficient way of dealing with them.

I figured out that they couldn't get through the tunnel to me (though occasionally they smack me with that ranged spell of theirs). However, I must be doing something wrong, because my beginner Flare spell isn't even denting them! (I have Supreme Magicka / LAME installed with SM loaded last if it matters, but I don't see how that would make it *harder*).

Weird. I must have done it five or six times by now, sometimes with OOO magic, sometimes with Supreme Magicka. On 50 difficulty. But note that with "a while", I mean several minutes.
