Our Hopes For The Carriage System

Post » Tue Jun 22, 2010 8:26 pm

First off, I hope it's not the same thing as regular fast travel with a loading screen. I'd like to enter the carriage and get a look at the beautiful scenery as I go by. I'm assuming the carriage will be pulled by a horse or two. Not that this topic is about horses but I think they'll still be in the game even if we can't mount them. Back on topic. I also have a hope for choosing to stop the carriage at will. Like if something catches your eye, you should have the option to stop the carriage when you want. One last hope I have for the carriage system is that I hope you can tell whoever is controlling the carriage to wait for you or they are free to go.

What are your hopes?

Sadly they're still working on it. They're unsure if it will make it. But on a good note, Todd said they've came a long way in the game so that kidna gives me hope.

Is it confirmed that it will actually be "carriages" and not, for example, boats or mammoth caravans, etc.?

All I can say is if they threw out the Oblivion Fast-Travel system, they better put a carriage node in every town and settlement, it blew in Morrowind having to hoof it from A to B half the time and the other half feeling like a simulator for flying international.

The specific word used was "carriage", but that might just be a term to me "transportation system". We'll most likely see boats, carriages, caravans, or some combination of those.

I believe they mentioned that fast travel is still in the game.

Basically, this is a way for them to appeal to both sides of the argument and let everyone have their cake and eat it too. Then again, the systems might have certain drawback and advantages that makes using one over the other a common choice.

Regardless, I never had an issue in Morrowind. My current character has an amulet of almsivi intervention, an amulet of divine intervention, and mark and recall. I can go anywhere I want without hassle, usually.

There hasn't been any details on the system yet, but I kinda figure it's just going to be an old fashioned horse and carriage.

But no, no boats or mammoth caravans for that matter.

I hope it's more than just regular fast travel but you have to pay for it.

No they still have fast travel like in OB. The carriage system is just a new alternative.

@Dragonborn1 Yeah like a taxi service. It should charge you by distance.

Hopefully there's more than just paying for it to differentiate it from normal fast travel.

Fast travel is still in, quite frank those who like it can SHUSH.

no idea what the Carriage system is, BUT an alternative (I.E VIABLE ALTERNATIVE) to magic click and go to area is sixy, if its like RDR I'd say thats pretty much what anyone could ask for

If they make it even remotely close to RDR's system then it'd be cool.

The reason I ask is because in a separate interview, Todd has confirmed that there are boats but you can't sail in them.

Maybe these boats provide the fast travel service to a few coastal cities.

(IIRC the alternative travel services is going to be limited to a few locations only, not every settlement)

a system similar to the taxis in gta 4 would be cool, getting you where you wont to go quickly but also allowing you to take in the sights, skipping the joueney should also be allowe but itvshould cost a little more. I also agree with the point made about being able to hop out at any time

There is, you can go places you have not visited with the carriage system while with fast travel you can only go to places you have already been. Not only did they include both options they made them make sense from a gameplay perspective.

I've seen the articles, but instead of being rude and saying "old" or whatever I say thanks instead.

I didn't remember Todd stated that carriages would take you to places you haven't been yet.

I am talking about saying thank you for article and saying you had not seen them yet or that info was new to you(and said articles were many days old). I am not trying to bash you, its just something I have seen with a number of people on here(who are on here alot) and it suprises me that they miss quite a few things. Perhaps I have gotten you mix up with others, sorry if that is the case. But like I said this info on carriages is over a month old. Here is the quote:

"Todd Howard: If you've been to a location before you can fast travel back. We also have a carriage system that can take you to some major locations that you haven't been yet, so it's a bit of a mix."

Ah, ok now I remember. Thanks for the link and the quote. Do you think the carriage system will be interactive?

I personally hope that if it is, that there will be an option to skip it. I think that would be the best way, because it might be cool to take in the view the first few times, but then it will get lame. But more likely I assume it will be like MW, just instant travel you pay for. But either way I am not big on any fast travel method(I like running from place to place) so it not a big deal to me.

Same here. Fast travel of any kind isn't something i'll use too often. Still nice to have options though.
