9 out of 10 loadings are infinite. any ideas?

Post » Tue Oct 08, 2013 9:18 am

So I'm starting a new playthrough after a fresh install and I'm having infinite loadscreens 9 out of 10 times I either load a save or travel between areas. Can any of you see what the issue might be from my load order? Thanks so much!

As well as this issue, I'm getting a CTD when trying to enter the bannered mare in Whiterun. I've tried a few times now.

I got the same thing. It was fixed when I got rid of Populated cities.

I have a lot of NPC mods, and that was just too much activity spinning up on cell entry to the Bannered Mare interior cell.

packages are being evaluated, wet and cold evaluating, frostfall being evaluated, cloaks, etc. for every NPC, I guess.

I have an i7 processor, but still...

From what i understand, normally, infinite loads are caused by your cpu or gpu getting overworked.

So try removing any graphical enhancement mods or mods that add a lot npcs.

hmm.. I see. thanks guys.

Are there any ini tweaks that I could use to utilize my i7 3770k quadcore cpu or my 32 gbs of ddr3 ram? Otherwise I may have to remove some mods as you say. Which ones would be good to remove? interesting npcs is probably on of the guilty, but I can't play without that one. hehehe

It's not 'Interesting NPCs.' It's more likely 'Populated Cities.' It's not 'how many NPCs is add in total', but how much stuff is added to any given cell or zone. Moreover, just because two mods adds 'more NPCs' does not mean they do it the same way. PC's NPCs are (re)spawns, generated on cell loading, whereas NPCs from INPCs are mostly unique actors and persistent refs, and no more than a handful of them can be found in any interior cell. You should start making saves only in interior cells, not in city zones. See if that helps to mitigate the issue. If this is happening a lot when you fast travel or simply trying to enter a city, then you should uninstall PC because it's a sign that your system (or even the game engine itself) can't handle PC + you other mods. If you have trouble loading save games you made in the wilderness, then the issue has nothing to do with these mods at all.

You know. That's the same kind of problem I was getting with Open Cities installed - massive ILS issues combined with Bannered Mare crashes on those occasions where Whiterun actually loaded. You don't have OCS loaded though.... interesting.

This is awesome stuff, thanks. I don't have populated cities, I believe the only npc adding mods are interesting npcs and inconsequential npcs. But I could be wrong. Perhaps having them both together could have a taxing effect?

I think ripple's advice to narrow down the issue (exteriors, interiors, both?) is a really good idea. The first question that I had when I read your post is: where is it happening? Outside In cities, in dungeons, in city buildings--where? Figuring that out might lead you to an answer.

But it sounds like you've got a high-end rig, so there are a couple of things you can try:

Edit your Skyrim.ini file to help with scripts:

Spoiler

Both of these borrowed from Duke Patrick's Combat ReadMe:

Conservative:

[Papyrus]

fUpdateBudgetMS=4.8

fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=4.8

iMinMemoryPageSize=512

iMaxMemoryPageSize=512

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=307200

bEnableLogging=0

bEnableTrace=0

bLoadDebugInformation=0

bEnableProfiling=0

Not So Conservative:

[Papyrus]

fUpdateBudgetMS=4.8

fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=4.8

fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=1000.0

iMinMemoryPageSize=100000

iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000

iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000

bEnableLogging=0

bEnableTrace=0

bLoadDebugInformation=0

bEnableProfiling=0

And http://www.creationkit.com/INI_Settings_(Papyrus) of these settings, which you should read before you make any changes. With your issue, it may be worthwhile trying the fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS setting from the "Not So Conservative" list above, even if you otherwise use the "Conservative" option.

Also, you should backup your ini file before making changes. If you run into serious problems, you can delete it, launch Skyrim from the default Skyrim launcher, and it will recreate a default ini for you.

The other thing you might try (long-shot) is http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/38649//?. This is a version of ENB for only splitting off Skyrim's graphics memory into a separate process (and fixing a few bugs). It doesn't change how the game looks. So you'll have 800MB or so for your TESV process, and another 1 - 3GB in the enbhost process, which is essentially your textures. This will only help if your problems are related to memory issues, though. Since ENB added this feature, I've had fewer crashes, but longer load times, so keep that in mind.

My system spec is 4GB ram, 7850 2GB, Core2Duo 3.0 GHz, Win 7, running Skyrim in 1680x1050, everything on high settings except shadows (on medium). I am running 160+ mods including 'Interesting NPCs', the hi-res DLC, and aMidianborn's armour/weapons textures. I average 40 FPS in the Whiterun Market....so...this could be an issue with your system (as in you might need to close background processes before launching the game, defrag your HD, that sort of stuff) rather than mods related. You can try turning off AA and AF and use FXAA injector instead. However, I also noticed you have a number of 'city overhaul' type mods. Some of those mods can add a ton of stuff to the game and cause the 'indefinite loading screen' issue in cities (but only in cities, not when you fast travel to places that are not edited by those mods). You also didn't list if you are using any texture overhaul type mods. It's important that you try to figure out the 'location' of the saves that you have issues with, and the locations of the fast travel where you encounter this issue. If we can't narrow down the issue, all we can do is make 'blind guesses' and that won't really help.
