Out of Memory

Post » Mon Feb 07, 2011 6:46 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a very strange error but I don't think that it's really related to Oblivion. Everytime I play the game a grey box appears on the screen with the text "Out of Memory" in red letters. The game still works, I can keep on playing without any problems (even my PIs still work) and the message is just ... well it's there. I tried it with a vanilla Oblivion and SI without any success. If anyone had some simmilar issue or read about it please post a link to the topic. I just found Out of Memory CTD topics.
Some further infos:
No problems if I play with the lowest settings. Depending on the level of of the qualities sooner or later the box reappears. There is no particular setting which causes the "Bug".
Oblivion is the only game with this "Bug". Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas work fine.
As it seems to be an issue with the graphic I use 2 NVidia GTX 460 with the new Beta driver 275.27 (had same issue with the last non-beta driver).
I hope some can help me.

Greetings Plauzi

PS: I wanted to post a screenshot too but the box doesn't appear on them (veeeeeery strange).

How much RAM you have?
Have you got anything else running in the background when you play the game?
Show us your dxdiag and let us see what have you got.

I stoped here because then comes the Deinterlace Caps which is just a bunch of Hex codes with a description

What I have forgotten to mention is, that the grey box is slightly transparent.
There are no major programms running while I play Oblivion.

Thanks for the fast answers.

8 gig of RAM, and it is giving out of memory errors? That is just odd.......

Run the game in windowed mode, and track memory usage. See just how much the game is using when you get the error message, and also, how much the rest of the system is using...... I seriously doubt that you are actually running out of memory...... Wonder if you don't have some malware on there, causing some issues?

Thank you for your help.
I started the game in window mode and ... tada. No grey box. RAM usage didn't increas over 44%. And I can even activate AA. I think I will keep on playing in window mode although it's not as nice as fullscreen but everything works fone so...
