Outfits and armor sets will come in a one piece suit

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 5:39 am

I read in the playstation official magazine in an interwie with todd howard that he said ''clothing will be simplified, with outfits and armor sets coming as a single suit rather than seperate parts.

So its going to be simplified? I liked it better in morrowind where it was much more accessible.

Do we really need another thread for this?
Either way it has been confirmed that armour will not be handled in the same way as Fallout... Take from that what you will.

I really hate the idea. I've been okay with most of the changes they've done, but this...

I'll wait for more info before I go into a state of rage, the info we have so far is very vague.

As I said in a previous version of this thread... I seriously doubt it. But IF they have. Just no, Attributes missing IM willing to work with, hell I'll even swallow a magic compass if its there . But an even MORE simplified slot system? [censored] no

And yesterday he mentioned that Todd would talk about armor in the Fan Interview.

Another thread about this is pretty unnecessary. Pete Hines said they'll clarify on this in the fan interview. I really think there was some misunderstanding in the Playstation Magazine, because we've already heard from Pete Hines that "armor is comprised of separate pieces" (pretty recently), and when asked about this topic, he replied multiple times with "We're not making a Fallout game", which is a clever way of saying "no, armor suits do not come in single suits" without technically revealing information he's not supposed to. Bethesda is not that stupid. I really don't think they'd make a mistake that big. Not to mention, we've seen screenshots with different types of armor mixed and matched already.

After reading the PS magazine quote I suspect it was a misunderstanding on the part of the PS writers. The question was about clothing, but the answer (given in parenthetical) seemed to extrapolate it to clothing AND armor. It could very well be the CLOTHING (but not ARMOR) is simplified and comes in single piece suits. Given that most players wear some form of armor, I don't think this is too big a deal (if that is indeed the case).

We have had other threads discussing this subject already, and it's been pointed out that previously, we were told that there were multiple clothing and armor slots (Though how many I don't think we were ever told.) so it's possible that the writer of the article misunderstood what the statement meant, as far as I know, we haven't gotten a clear answer on just which statement is true yet, and unless we get confirmation that the magazine is correct and the statement means what it sounds, I'm not ready to think that apparel will indeed come in one piece suits, though if Bethesda has indeed decided to go that route, then yes, I don't like that choice, though I don't see much point in getting angry about it until I'm sure.

Oh, wow... Really? I think this is the first thing I've heard that I find seriously disappointing... I REALLY hope this isn't true... I remember reading a long time ago on Pete's twitter or something that there would be lots of customization... :/ I hope this is just a misprint. :(

Holy crap....it was a mistake. All magazines make mistakes at some point. As a matter of fact, each magazine preview we have seen so far has had some sort of mistake or contradicts with other magazines. Pete confirmed this was wrong, and we would know how many pieces once we see the fan questions get answered.

More likely a misinterpretation than a misprint. It is later on confirmed that armor will not be in a single suit (a la Fallout). But to what extends, we don't know yet. Not until Todd himself explain more about it in the coming Fans Q&A which is to be released after the E3.

edit: I'm perfectly fine to be ninja'd, btw!

Can't be true. This would be worse than walled cities, and I thought walled cities was the worst news.

That would be severely disappointing, as people have said though, Hines said otherwise, so we have two conflicting ideas here. oh well, I'll just wait and see hopefully E3 will shine some light on the subject.

seriously though, everyone feared it was going to be like oblivion (or worse than oblivion, as oblivion wasn't THAT bad), but if all one outfit... it's worse than we feared.

I don't see how that makes it better. For robes that is fine, but the shirts, pants, shoes should come as seperate as they did in prior games.

Aye, cloth in one piece would be terrible aswell, even if not AS bad a armor. Granted they were like 2 pieces in Oblivion.. but that svcked aswell

Yes, and no matter how many times you repeat that or how big a font you use to do so, the magazine quote from after that statement says otherwise, and then Pete's most recent tweet, in response to questions about the magazine quote, only said that it was not going to be "Fallout 3 one piece" and that we were going to have to "stay tuned."

To the OP and others who are concerned, that's where it stands. We have two apparently contradictory statements (though it's also possible that they're both broadly true, somehow) and a third statement that doesn't really clarify anything and says we have to "stay tuned." And that's that. Anybody outside of Beth who tries to tell you any different is jumping to conclusions.
