Over 200k loot, not enough merchants to sell it to :(

I hope there will be a mod where you can buy a castle for lets say 1,000,000 septims.

From my various dungeon dives I've got myself over 200k loot, but I've exhausted most, it not all the merchants gold. :( Any other people that I could sell it to?

Whats the point of having that much gold if you are not buying anything?

This is a problem for me, too. While I don't have 200k in loot, I have an easy 20k, and I have no way to sell it. In a lot of ways, this game is like fallout, and that's a problem for me. I'm not one of the complainers, either, but everything from the title screen to the menus, and even the merchants, are too much like the fallout series. Other than those things, the game is fantastic.

I'm lvl 22 with over 200k in loot.

I'm lvl 25 with ~26k. Hmm, interesting.

(And yeah - I loot all the "valuable" stuff. Pretty much anything with a 10:1 gold:weight ratio or higher.)

I've rarely had any issues with vendors not having gold.... they seem to restock really fast. Just the shop in Riverwood and the four in Whiterun have been enough. (A handful of times, I've bought something small, valuable, and useful from them, in order to sell off a bit more stuff, but I'll use those items eventually. Like the grand soul gem.)

edit: I have packratted away a bunch of stuff in my house. Most every crafting ingredient, all my soul gems & alchemy stuff, and some backup weapons. I've also disenchanted a number of magic items. But that shouldn't be more than 2-4k more lost.

Define "too much gold" in a single player only game? Why is it a problem?

Because many people complained about it being too easy to get filthy rich in prior ES games and Bethesda listened?

Having a lot of gold is nice, but there is no way or reason to spent them all in this game. If you just want to have a lot of gold for no reason, then go for it. But do realize the game wasn't design like a 4X game with detail econ simulation.

Yep, I hate this problem so I just fix it with the console and give shop owners all over the place loads more cash. I suppose not everybody thinks this is legit but it's bloody daft when shop owners don't have enough money to buy any of your stock anywhere in Skyrim. It was also a problem on Oblivion.

This is an attempt by bethesda to stop you getting too much gold from looting, by making you pick and choose what yo uwill sell since the merchants dont have inifinate gold.

This.

It prevents you from getting far too much gold WAY too fast.

Don't vendors reset their wares and money every 24 game-hours? Can't you use fast travel to pop back and forth between towns instantly? Can't you wait for X hours and have the time pass in seconds?

Bethesda doesn't need to fix what isn't broken.

Now if it is an issue of there being an item that is worth more money than ANY vendor can afford, I can see how it may be considered a problem. However, if you have something worth that much, maybe it is the game's way of saying that you have something really valuable, and that it's something you really shouldn't be wanting to part with?

Anyway, for the instant gratification crowd, I'm sure that once the creation kit is released, someone will mod in an uber vendor who has enough gold that you can sell every item in the game to at once.

There is also another solution:
Maybe try not picking up every last item you find. You'll find that your inventory won't fill up so fast, and you won't be making vendor runs as often. More time passes and they restock so what you want to sell has a better chance of selling.

i think the question is why are you trying to stockpile gold. Other then using it to buy skills and at power leveling crafting skills gold is worthless.

Do you guys want an inevitable loss? like www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGIWICrAzbA There is no way to win, and you will lose all your holdings distributed to the land? Or like do you want to somehow summon all men and women to your cause with gold showers when you have no clear ideals.

(It's most likely bad video gamers)

Not that it will help much with 200K+ of items to sell, but - there are some SPEECH PERKS that will help this:

Master Trader: Every merchant in the World Gets +1000 Gold to buy your items with

Investor: Invest 500 gold with a Shopkeeper to permanently increase his available gold

Just figured I toss that out there.

I have the same problem. I just finished leveling alchemy to 100 and now have tens of thousands of gold worth of invisiblity, paralyze potions etc that I don't want. Last night I spent 30m or whatever selling potions to the 20ish potion buying traders in all the holds and generated only around 15k of gold. I could spend a few hours selling off all my loot but that's not how I want to play the game.

Even though I have all this loot I am completely broke because training costs so much.

I think I'll just dump it all into a barrel somewhere and count up the value of the items and cheat myself half the value in gold and consider it 'sold'.

surprised I didn't hear this, and I haven't gotten to the point of doing this in Skyrim yet, but in Morrowind I would often buy the most valuable (ie: best gold to weight ratio) items that a vendor has, giving them more money to buy my really expensive stuff. Then you can sell off the cheaper stuff as needed to other vendors that have less money. It takes time, but what doesn't take time up in this game? It is a pretty easy solution, even if you do end up with a bunch of light weight, valuable items.

If you have grinded this much worth in items and would be able to sell it all, the economical system would collapse in essence that it would be too easy to train up quite some skills.

I spent alot of money on smithing myself, to get myself the armor and weapons I want. No where near that amount but 10k gold dont last anywhere.

You could also maybe place some points into speechcraft skill tree to help.
There is a reason there is perks to assist with this, up to you to take them or not.

I'm only level 22 and I don't bother looting anymore unless it's something I'll personally use for enchanting and such and that stuff I just store in my house. I have over 30K now and probably 15K more in loot in my house. I don't really see the point in the Speech skills unless you want to RP a smooth talker or something as gold is just never a problem in TES games. Just doing side quests nets you a ton of gold and some give you ridiculous amounts. Even with the Perks I would think you'll have the same problem as Oblivion from mid game on, which is there are almost no vendors that have enough gold to even buy high end armor or weapons from you.

Off but on topic.
Is there more than one house to buy? I only know of the one in Whiterun. I am assuming that every city has a house you can buy?

Anyway, there is no reason to loot everything, in my first play the only thing I looted was light items with a large price and my speech skill never really got that high. I still had over 10K after wiping out both smiths of mats in Whiterun and Riverwood.

Later in the game quests just throw money at you for any small old problem. Some of the fed-ex quests are worth 500-1,000 gold pieces.

Now with my current character I had over 3,000 gold before I even left Riverwood, and had my first house about a hour later.

Wait, your 'first' play?

if done right, your 'first' play in Skyrim should last weeks...

wish I got 50% of listed value for items, I'm still down around 35% of listed cost.
