Over 200k loot, not enough merchants to sell it to :(

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 10:10 pm

From my various dungeon dives I've got myself over 200k loot, but I've exhausted most, it not all the merchants gold. :( Any other people that I could sell it to?

Wait 24 hours and see if they have restocked their gold? The Riverwood Trader is always a good place as they seem to buy almost everything.

I'm not quite where you are with the amount of loot, but I don't like it when I'm running a dungeon and keep returning to the trader in town to sell items - only to find out he's down to 5 gold. I guess going to another city/town to sell stuff is an option, but that means I'll be going further and further from the quest dungeon. What I've been doing is sleeping, and waiting till the trader resets the amount of money he has.

If Bethesda doesn't increase the amount of money a trader has, maybe someone can build a mod to fix this.

Its called a perk in the speechcraft tree.

Or you can just cheat.

I consider it a part of the balance of the game, and of the speechcraft tree, which would be completely useless otherwise :)

They restock every 48 hours. Just do your tour with the merchants and then wait 48 hours again.

But this will only be giving back the money you spent on training.

Yes. So now you've got 200k worth of training.

Now how can you get to 200K worth of loot? The loot I get barely reaches 10K.

This is an attempt by bethesda to stop you getting too much gold from looting, by making you pick and choose what yo uwill sell since the merchants dont have inifinate gold.

People got to get over this OCD loot stuff. Just take the light weight big ticket items, and you'll still have more than enough $ to craft and buy the things you want, you don't need to squeeze every septim out of every dungeon trip, you're just wasting your own time.

Define "too much gold" in a single player only game? Why is it a problem?

Yeah. I don't really care for games that offer you so many ways to make money all that time. Once you get a certain amount, what's the point? I have hit thirty thousand, and aside from some ingredients, and gold to buy arrows and the occasional piece of armor, all I do is hoard. With houses being the only thing that really costs money, the whole point of looting often seems pointless. It's why in New Vegas I made a system where I could only carry a realistic set of items. A number of smaller weapons, an extra set of armor, etc. Thinking I am going to be doing the same thing my next playthrough.

Off but on topic.
Is there more than one house to buy? I only know of the one in Whiterun. I am assuming that every city has a house you can buy?

Anyway, there is no reason to loot everything, in my first play the only thing I looted was light items with a large price and my speech skill never really got that high. I still had over 10K after wiping out both smiths of mats in Whiterun and Riverwood.

Later in the game quests just throw money at you for any small old problem. Some of the fed-ex quests are worth 500-1,000 gold pieces.

Now with my current character I had over 3,000 gold before I even left Riverwood, and had my first house about a hour later.

Solitude, Windhelm, and Riften all have houses for sale.
And I'm pretty sure you can get one In Markarth too.

I'm not even looting everything, but I still think the money on a lot of the vendors is too little. My character is working on the speechcraft perk tree, so I will eventually be able to do something about it, but I hate having to run around like a travelling salesman just to get rid of two dragon bones.
