Over 20 complete shouts!

And over 60 individual words. I like the idea that you can find words scrawled on the walls in ancient ruins, etc. It will give a much better incentive to explore all the caves you come across (certainly more so than the leveled loot in Oblivion...).

This, there is really no room for discussion. It clearly explains the system in the article. There will be approximately 60 different words, that add up to 20 different Shouts.

In any case, in advertising of any sort, if you say "Over" a particular amount, such as say 20, that means its going to be less than 30, other wise they would go ahead and say 30 or Over 30. Usually the amount its over is by 1 or 2.

Not always, it depends on his mindset (I think 30 is most likely as a max) He could be underexagerating in order to keep mystery and shocking the players making them " :woot: " Or he could just mean any number under 30, or just 20 and using the language wrong.

Not only that, but from the recent release they keep adding to the vocabulary ^_^ maybe that's why he's saying over 20 shouts he doesn't know how many more they'll add and if the other shouts don't work out at least he has 20 safe ones ^_^

21 - Defeat the boss and you gain the ability to fly via shouts. Amazed how many thinks 20 given the wordings "more than 20", but, oh well... :P

I'm gunna go ahead and say there are 7 unique shouts... if you think about it, if each shout consists of three words, then they could easily categorize each spoken word as a separate shout... I hope to god I'm wrong, but I could totally see something like that happening.=\ c'Mon 20+ unique shouts!! Haha

Edit: mostly grammar cuz I fail at life

If they say "Over 20", it implies a number higher than 20 but lower than thirty, because if it was exactly 20, they could just say 20, not over 20, if it was more than 30, they'd say over 30, not over 20, so 25 seems like a good number, give or take a few. Though it could also mean that it's like Madaras Zore suggested and they actually aren't sure of the exact number of shouts available in the game, but they're sure there will be at least 20, so they're being safe and just saying "Over 20", which means there can be more shouts if more are added later on, but as long as they deliver at least the 20, it doesn't promise anything that we won't actually see, only time will tell, though.

I voted for 21 because I'm feeling cynical and it's the lowest number that fits the requirement of "over 20".

Actually that makes pretty good sense. Thats how I interpreted the article as well--as in each individual word is capable of a minor shout effect and as you string two or three words together they become more powerful. 7*3=21

If they make sense: the more, the merrier. 25-30.

To above: combining sounds great, but I hope the 'unique' part isn't disappointing.

Hopefully it is 21, that way each major playstyle (Stealth, Magic, Combat) each has 7 shouts associated with it. I loved the distance closing Dragon "whisper", and hope for many more like it!

Well that sounds FAR BETTER than the leveled loot in Oblivion... thats great news... so... this is how I hope they make it: Johns= fire damage 100, Black= on self, eyeball= on touch... and whenever you chose to make one of these dragon shout thingys you'll have to put the right words together or you might end up making a fire damage 100 points on self... or maybe a fire damage, summon dragon, for 100 sec, on self....

Well... I don't know if the exact way they'll make this system work has been confirmed... I don't live a place where you can get gameinformer and somehow my computer always crash when I try to load their website...

Also a cool shout would be you casting a green fireball or something and as soon as you move you'll be teleported to its current position, once the fireball hits something the spell dies out...

Yeah, I could see a lot of devs doing stuff like this. I'm sure there are plenty of instances of it if I were to dig for it, I just hope to god when they say 20+ shouts they mean unique effects, not 7 different effects with three levels that very slightly in usage or power. I just can't honestly think of useful shout ideas that aren't already magic effects... well, I camt think of over 20 I mean. Is there a thread out there that people are discussing possible shout effects??

Edit: tryin to make more sense lol

There are 60 unique words to learn, and 3 words per shout. All the words are only used in one shout each, which gives you a total of 20 unique shouts. There is no interchanging words to make different combinations.

I forgot that the article said there were over 60 words in total. With 60+ words, the idea of 7 individual, unique shouts; each with 3 varying degrees of intensity can't work, because it would mean that there was only 21 words. So I will now say there are 23 unique shouts, that each need 3 words in it to be effectively used and I will also guess, from what I read, that the longer you hold the button for some shouts the more intense the effect will be, but I would also guess that for the sake of balancing the overpowered effects that these shouts will unleash, that their delivery will be kind of slow and will leave you exposed for a few seconds, and defenseless against any enemy attack--and that being struck while in the midst of summoning a shout, would cancel the shout altogether.

Lastly, and this is to Proditus, I can't see why some words couldn't possibly be used in two different shouts. Ultimately, it is the combination of words that matters, not the individual meaning of a specific word.
